About me

Is life frustrating? Are you anxious, or having relationship difficulties? I offer a welcoming, confidential space to share & overcome life's difficulties.

I offer short and long term therapy and counselling for people experiencing life's difficulties including relationship issues, depression, low self-esteem, anxiety and bereavement. I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist with a psychodynamic orientation.  This means I can work in a variety of ways and ensure that you get the best possible support for the issues you want to explore.  I offer individual long and short term therapy and can see people once a week or more frequently.

The way we are going to work together is something we would agree.  Sometimes CBT is helpful for the immediate relief of symptoms, helping with panic and for anger management.  Other times a more meditative and mindful approach might be more helpful in relieving stress, anxiety and depression. Sometime it's preferable to concentrate on understanding and finding new ways to deal with life’s daily difficulties, perhaps in understanding why patterns of abuse repeat themselves. Many people also find working with dreams highly beneficial.

However we proceed you are guaranteed an atmosphere of thoughtful compassion, intelligent reflection and openness.

Training, qualifications & experience

Before training I worked in higher education where I was responsible for running a large media studies department with close to 1000 students. I understand the realities of the work place and its pressures, budgets, and management concerns.

During my training I worked for the NHS for four years as an Honorary Psychotherapist as part of the mental health services team seeing a range of clients with issues such as OCD, depression, addictions and personality disorders.

I use a range of models including mindfulness, CBT and Jungian ways of working.

2010    Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy.  School of Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology (SPCP), Regent’s College.

2010    MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling. School of Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology (SPCP), Regent’s College.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
