About me

Hello and welcome!

I am an experienced person centred and integrative counsellor - this means that I am able to tailor my therapeutic approach specifically for you as an individual. I work with the belief that you are the expert on yourself - but at challenging times and with difficult life circumstances and experiences, sometimes we lose our way and need another person to help us reconnect with who we are, and to help us fulfill our true potential.

I aim to support you in doing this by offering you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space, from which to explore anything which may be causing you trouble or distress.

Sometimes you may not know what it is that prevents you from living a more contented and fulfilling life, and it is by taking this time to talk with someone from outside of your everyday life that you may begin to gain insights, compassion and understanding to a forgotten or lost part of yourself.

My integrative approach means that as well as talking together, I also use a variety of methods, such as relaxation techniques and mindfulness as and when it is appropriate to you. I aim to guide and support you as we work together, rather than telling or advising you what to do or how to be.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC) which is an accredited training in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling. A vital and obligatory part of this particular training is that each student has weekly therapy until they pass and qualify themselves. I say this as evidence that I know very well what it is like to seek out a therapist and be willing to build a trusting relationship and to sit in the client's chair.

Alongside my private practice, I also work as a counsellor at a university, working with both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

I previously worked as a senior practitioner in the family services team of a nationwide charity, supporting parents, children, teenagers and their families to work through their bereavement process after a close family member had died.

I have many years of experience working at a low cost agency, counselling a wide variety of adults of all ages and backgrounds. I worked to support clients with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, divorce and separation, illness, death and loss/grief, family conflict, life changes, drug and alcohol addiction and recovery.

I have also been a volunteer counsellor at two charitable counselling agencies in Gloucestershire. One specialising in supporting teenagers and young people experiencing a range of difficulties and challenges including depression, anxiety, loss of confidence, coming to terms with divorce or separation of parents.

I have taken part in training for mentoring young women and teenage girls and also have volunteered as a counsellor at a girls grammar school in Gloucestershire.

I am fully insured as a professional therapist and have a current/valid enhanced DBS certificate (disclosure and baring service).

Prior to training as a counsellor, I have worked in a variety of therapeutic and care settings including a specialist eating disorder and self-harm residential unit and also within an educational setting for young people with challenging behaviours.

I am a Mother and a Grandmother and have also been a foster carer. I am a lover of nature and relax and recharge my 'batteries' by walking in the countryside with my dog.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
