About me
Does your work involve caring for the needs of others? Do you love your job and yet sometimes feel overwhelmed by the time, energy and commitment you give other people, and feel that you and your own needs get lost along the way? Do you often feel panicky, anxious and full of self doubt? Do you struggle to take time for self-care and aren't sure who you are any longer beyond the work you do?
I have experience of working with therapists of all sorts, social workers, medical/healthcare workers, and people working with children in children's homes and schools, or as foster carers/adoptive parents. If this is you and you are interested in working outdoors in nature, then my approach may be right for you: my aim is to help you restore your emotional balance and find a way forward that re-energises you, and allows you to honour and support all parts of who you are, including parts of you that may have got lost over time, as well as your caring parts.
My focus in our sessions is you and everything that you bring: your interests, passions, strengths and struggles. My job is get to know you and support you as you explore and connect with parts of you that you may know well, as well as those may have been hidden for a while or may even be completely unknown to you. Your job is to come regularly and unburden yourself when your ready: you control the pace and what you share.
My therapy space is the woods; the chemicals that trees give off are proven to have a naturally calming effect on us humans, so this is an ideal environment for my clients to slow down and really connect with themselves. We work holistically through their senses and their responses to the natural environment, as well as through talking; this can lead to surprising self-discoveries about their unconscious patterning and behaviours, which can then allow for change and a better life-work balance.
Many of my clients don't feel that they have a right to take time for themselves; but once they take the plunge and gift themselves the time and kindness of working with a therapist, they usually feel better right away. We then build on this by taking the time to look at some of the underlying thoughts, beliefs and feelings that drive and can lead to overwhelm and feeling 'lost'.
I have nearly 20 years of clinical experience as a dramatherapist and my approach is informed by the latest neuroscience/ trauma research, other therapeutic models and philosophical thinking.
What is most important is that you feel that what I offer is right for you. If you are interested in finding out more about my approach and what the experience may be like for you, please get in touch for a free 20 minute no-pressure telephone conversation. I look forward to hearing from you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified from the University of Surrey, Roehampton as a Dramatherapist in 2005 and am currently working towards a Certificate in Embodied Psychotherapy which beautifully complements my dramatherapy training and my holistic approach to wellbeing and healing.
Over nearly 20 years, I have worked with adults, children and families in a range of charities, local authorities, residential homes, schools and in private practice. My skills and experience set includes relational trauma, attachment and parent-child relationships, adoption, chronic anxiety, low self esteem and climate grief.
As well as running a small outdoor therapy practice, I work part time as an Associate at Beacon House Trauma Services based in Cuckfield.
I also completed a Clinical Supervision training in 2021 and offer outdoor supervision for therapists/counsellors and others in the caring professions.
