Louise Tull DipCoun MNCS BSc (Hons) RD
I carried out a four year training course in psychotherapy and counselling at the Link Centre in East Sussex and I am now a fully qualified psychotheraputic counsellor.
I have been working in private practice at Seahaven Therapy since 2018 and previously, I have provided counselling to clients across Brighton, Hove and Eastbourne with a wide range of issues, including relationship challenges, loss, loneliness, loss of independence and ability, depression and anxiety. I have also seen clients with food related issues.
As well as training to be a Psychotherapist and Counsellor, I am a registered Dietitian and have worked in various NHS Trusts since 2007. In this role, I have found that food is often used as a way of suppressing or controlling emotions, which can lead to unhealthy eating patterns, addiction and ways of dealing with painful life events, such as bereavement, abuse, and low self-esteem to name a few.
This has led me to believe that for many, food and eating “issues” are a symptom and not a cause of their presenting medical complaints, which has wanted me to treat the whole person rather than just focusing on their diet.
Building and maintaining kind, caring and empathic therapeutic relationship is of upmost importance to me. Ensuring clients have the space to be able to discuss what challenges they are facing and consider what changes they can make to change these, means that I work in a way that maintains confidentiality, is empathetic, non-judgemental and supportive.
