- Feeling stressed or overwhelmed by intense emotions?
- Acting impulsively or doing things you later regret?
- Struggling with thoughts going around and around your head?
- Feeling as though life is unbalanced?
- Struggling with on-going low mood and feeling as though nothing is helping?
- Tried different types of therapy but didn't find they helped?
If you relate to any of these experiences, I can help you. I am a clinical psychologist with specialist skills in working with intense emotions, stress, self-harm, impulsivity and relationship difficulties. I am trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and use this model to inform my work. Together with the team at Brighter Horizons Brighton, I am able to offer full programme DBT which is a specialist evidence-based treatment for borderline personality disorder/emotionally unstable personality disorder. I can also draw on these skills (in addition to my training as a clinical psychologist) to develop an individualised approach to therapy for individuals without a personality disorder diagnosis but who struggle with the difficulties I describe.
I am compassionate and non-judgemental. I understand how difficult it can be to open up about aspects of your life that you struggle with and am solution focused in my approach, helping you to develop the skills you need to navigate your problems you face. I am committed to working in an open manner and to be informed by how you want to work. I feel I have particular skills in helping individuals who feel other types of therapy have not been helpful. Drawing from my dialectical behavioural training, I place acceptance and change at the heart of my work; I will accept you as you are yet help you push for change within your life.
I can offer:
- full programme DBT for individuals with a borderline/emotionally unstable personality disorder diagnosis
- support packages for friends, family members or partners of those with a personality disorder diagnosis
- individual therapy (including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness based interventions and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
- a group wellbeing programme to develop skills in managing emotions more effectively.
Alongside DBT-informed approaches, I am passionate about working with individuals who identify their life as being unbalanced in some way (relationship difficulties, work/life out of balance, feeling stuck in a rut). Drawing from my training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I can help individuals identify and connect to the things that are important within their lives, turn towards and commit to these things fully and overcome barriers to achieving their potential.
