Louise Harris, MBACP (Reg)
2-8 Victoria Avenue
My core method centres around you. I work with you to discover which way of working best suits your needs. Within the confidential space, difficulties can be explored which can increase your self-understanding in order to bring change and possibilities.
I provide a friendly, down-to-earth and safe space. I work with a wide range of issues and find it's better for your wellbeing if you are not directed, but guided with the focus that you have the autonomy; through counselling this can bloom. The core of my practice is that I empathise and provide unconditional acceptance in a non-judgmental space.
I also draw on knowledge of various approaches. I'm able to bring in elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in a client-centred way and Transactional Analysis.
CBT can have mixed reactions. Many are put off by paper work and ticking boxes. I do not require CORE forms to meet government targets. CBT can be additionally beneficial with anxiety disorders, addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and eating disorders.
I believe that giving advice is not fulfilling, as being told what to do can start from a young age. This can be damaging and cause confusion as to who you really are and affect life choices. However, I can provide tools, other ways of thinking, knowledge and ways of dealing with issues. Also challenge ways of behaviour and be supportive for you.
Not only do I have continuous personal development (training), but I feel that the client-counsellor relationship is vitally important. As many studies show that this is a major factor in the client's autonomy. You are the key to knowing whether a counsellor is right for you.
I am always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Training, qualifications & experience
I work on a one-to-one basis across a range of issues. Some of the issues brought to therapy range from: Addiction/substance misuse, anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, burn out, OCD, panic attacks, PTSD, depression, bariatric surgery, self-harm, stress, low self-esteem and confidence, postnatal depression, eating disorders, relationship and family issues, affairs and betrayal, personality disorders, sexual, physical and verbal abuse, trauma, dissociation, loss and bereavement.
There can be many layers within the counselling process – no matter what the presenting issue may be. Healing can develop from much deeper within.
Regular reviews are carried out throughout the counselling one-to-one.
I have worked across varied practices with adults: Within schools, a children's centre, and substance misuse and addiction rehabilitation before setting up self-employment.
I was originally trained as a humanistic counsellor (Person-Centred, Gestalt and Psychosynthesis). I also have knowledge of CBT and Transactional Analysis (TA) and the Rewind Technique which I integrate into the work where required.
I'm a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am continuously advancing my skills by the use of professional development.

I have an extensive creative and media background (working in Drama and Sport) before retraining as a counsellor.
