About me

I provide a secure and confidential counselling service for people from all backgrounds and cultures. My aim is to work non-judgmentally and empathically with clients, in the belief of an individuals capacity for growth and development. If you're struggling with life's events, feeling low or anxious, I can provide a safe environment to explore your problems, thoughts and feelings, with a view to finding a better way of coping. I work on both a short or long term basis, depending on individual needs.

After an accumulation of life events, I felt a need to increase my knowledge of psychology and decided to train as a counsellor. I could see how counselling and psychotherapy can help in many different ways with self-development, interpersonally, emotionally and spiritually.

Research has shown that when people are feeling troubled, anxious, depressed or confused, talking through and exploring such difficulties with a qualified professional counsellor/psychotherapist, can reduce such symptoms and help people to feel better and more in control of their lives. I am trained and qualified to provide impartial support, with psychotherapeutic knowledge and expertise, which can help you to find a better way of coping.

My background is in humanistic therapy, but after years of CPD (continual professional development) I also integrate other models such as cognitive behavioural therapy, attachment, transactional analysis and trauma, which can be beneficial when working with issues of anxiety, depression, loss and many other issues as stated below. I adapt my knowledge and skills according to each individuals needs. For more information about my work, please view my website www.louiseedwardscounselling.co.uk

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
