About me

I offer support with warmth and respect, providing a confidential and comfortable setting where clients have the opportunity to talk, looking at difficult and often confusing feelings, thoughts and behaviours. I base how I work on the Person Centred Approach; an approach which embraces the whole of a person, trusting that each of us has our own resources and internal knowledge to find the answers we're looking for.

I work with my clients with openness and transparency. I offer a place where clients can explore how they deal with their internal process, how they relate to themselves and how they then relate to others. I believe that everyone offered the right conditions has the capacity to change. I follow my clients' lead in what they choose to bring to counselling and by actively listening and attending to what I'm hearing and experiencing, I am able to help clients find clarity and choice in how they can go forwards with their life. My aim is to offer a relationship which facilitates change whether this is by helping a client to unravel a particular problem, or by looking together at more complicated and deep rooted issues.

I offer a complimentary session of 30 minutes for us to meet and see if we get along or if you'd prefer a full 50 minute session I charge my usual rate of £45. It is key that you feel comfortable and I believe that our counselling relationship itself is significant in how successful this journey will be for you. Naturally there would be no obligation for you to continue coming if you feel you’d be better suited to working with another counsellor. Similarly if I felt that another counsellor/counselling model would benefit you, I would recommend this.

I am a reliable, experienced therapist and a member of the BACP (MBACP) and as such I am committed to the adherence of their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I have regular supervision, enabling me to explore my own processes in my client work, ensuring that the relationship and service that I offer to clients is therapeutically responsible and effective. I am fully insured.

Training, qualifications & experience

Post Qualifying Certificate in Counselling Children and Young People
Foundation Degree in Science in Person-Centred Counselling (FdSc)
Mindfullness Based Cognitive Therapy course
Child Protection and Safeguarding Training
Sussex Breakeven (Gamcare) Problem Gamblers Training
Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training
Place2Be Training Certificate
Intermediate Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling

I currently work with adults, teenagers and children from my private practice. I initially gained experience of working with young people with the Place2Be, providing play therapy and counselling in a primary school in Croydon for 3 years and more recently, initially as a volunteer for The Dialogue Therapeutic Services counselling teenagers in a secondary school, followed by working as a self employed counsellor in a Brighton secondary school. These settings have provided me with a deep understanding of the need that many children and teenagers have to express themselves and feel heard in a nonjudgmental and relaxed environment. With the premise of respecting a young person's perceptions and needs, I offer a supportive relationship where they are able to explore how they relate to themselves and to others. I have seen that patience and openness supports an environment in which self awareness, acceptance and confidence can be developed.

While I trained and after qualifying, I worked for 2 years with Breakeven, an organisation that offers counselling to gamblers wanting to control their addiction, and also to clients who are affected by gambling (i.e as partners/parents of gamblers.) I developed an appreciation of the complexities involved with dependency and addiction; the 'relationship' that individuals have with the addiction, as well as the difficulties that other family members experience while they are also living with the addiction and behaviour.
