Lou Wallis BSc (Hons).,Dip.Couns. Registered Counsellor
Are you looking for support during a difficult time in your life? I can help you to try to find solutions to your problems or to come to terms with a difficult situation. I am a registered person-centred counsellor and I will do my very best to help you to understand your feelings and to explore solutions to your problems. I will help you to make decisions about any changes you might want to make in your life.
My approach is compassion focused - helping you to become aware of how and why you react to certain situations and how you might modify your responses to take better care of yourself. I will give you the time and space to explore your problems, understand your problems and resolve or come to terms with your problems.
I work with individuals covering a wide range of issues including relationship problems, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, family issues, bereavement, redundancy, sadness, guilt and low self confidence. Your meetings with me will always be in private and totally confidential. The first session is when we meet and discuss your issue and gives you an opportunity to decide if counselling is for you before you make a commitment. If you decide to continue, I usually recommend four sessions and then we review how the process is working for you.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their code of ethical practice.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Working with relationship problems is a particular interest of mine. I am also interested in how lifestyle affects emotional health - simple lifestyle changes can often improve mood in a positive way.
Telephone counselling sessions are £45 per sixty minutes for individuals.
I usually recommend four sessions and then we can do a review so that we can both consider how we feel the process is going.
Following the latest Government advice to avoid personal contact due to the coronavirus pandemic, I am currently only offering counselling sessions by telephone .
