About me

I am an experienced accredited Counsellor, accredited E.M.D.R. Therapist and Supervisor. I am located in Leeds 26,  with easy access to buses and parking. I offer both long and short term counselling to suit your needs, covering a wide range of difficulties and issues.

For new clients I offer a free thirty minute consultation where you can get to know me, as well as discussing your therapy needs and the best approach for you. It is important to make an informed and relaxed choice before embarking on Counselling or E.M.D.R. I have over twenty years experience in Counselling and ten years  experience with E.M.D.R, so can help guide you towards a solution tailored to your needs.

I work with a wide range of issues, including  anxiety, panic disorders, depression, low self esteem, confidence, relational difficulties, sexual abuse, CSA and trauma. All of which may result from life experiences and may impact the way that you behave and view yourself and others. I am able to help you to talk about personal and relational difficulties in a safe, confidential space.

My Approach

The initial stages of therapy can be the most important. It is crucial that you feel comfortable in your environment, with me and that you fully understand the therapy approaches available.

In your initial consultation we will talk through your reasons for seeking therapy and what expectations and goals you wish to achieve. The following sessions will work at getting to the route of your troubles, how to deal/manage the core issues and how to move forward to become more comfortable within yourself.

There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions. Some people feel that they have achieved what they came for after only four or five sessions, while others continue to work longer because this is what suits their needs at the time. Establishing what you want from the work, discussing how you feel about the sessions and planning when to end the work are all important parts of the therapeutic process.

When traumatic or distressing experiences occur it can overwhelm our normal coping mechanisms, which is why we use E.M.D.R. therapy to reduce the lingering emotional effects, thereby developing better coping mechanisms. Trauma can be major or minor and may leave us with lasting effects such as nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, phobias, low self esteem, negative self beliefs etc. Essentially, E.M.D.R. aims to help you to overcome troubling parts of your past and move on with life.

You may be unfamiliar with E.M.D.R and Counselling, which is why I offer a free telephone consultation. Make an appointment by email, text or telephone, whichever is more convenient for you.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Supervision is an important aspect of counselling and I believe that it is vital that the Supervisory relationship is open, honest, supportive and challenging.
