About me

Hi, thank you for stopping by to read my page.  I am currently away in Istanbul and return to work on the 23rd May 2025. I apologise for any inconvenience. I will respond to emails on my return. Thank you for your understanding 🙏

My name is Lorraine, and I have cherished a belief in the Universe and that we each have an inner voice that is a source of support. Nearly every client I have ever worked with either comes to me for this reason or they become curious about it during their therapy and want to know more. But they need to be able to speak on terms that won't be dismissed or undermined, that is confidential and safe, to enable the ability to connect openly with a part of themselves that is usually hidden away.  They also want to distinguish between this inner helpful part and the much less helpful chattering worry mind that keeps people stuck and replaying painful experiences and memories.

When I trained as an integrative therapist, I explored the transpersonal, because it includes our heart, the part of us which transcends our 'chattering mind and physical body' and how an awareness of this metaphysical heart (this means to go beyond our normal daily perception) helps us know and feel ourselves authentically, it allows us to see the sacred in our daily life, to appreciate and know gratitude. Eastern cultures' psychological wisdom, having now entered mainstream therapy, such as Buddhism, supports our Western needs; it teaches us how we can live grounded in this earth-bound reality and not be mentally at odds with life or jarred by its contradictions.  I wanted to understand how to navigate the deeper, hidden parts of the psyche while navigating the daily 'earthbound' life problem stuff. And ask where our feelings come from and how we alleviate overwhelm, distress or difficult memories from the past that can lead to personality distortions, physical ailments, emotional and behavioural conditions. How can therapy help uproot fears of abandonment or rejection, and how does therapy help any of us get to where we want to be?

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCBT) works to understand the mind. (This is different to standard CBT). It goes a little deeper using short visual creative breath meditations to activate intuition, a loving nature, to relax the nervous system and enhance the creative imagination. It is also an intervention to use between sessions. As a modality it supports the experience of knowing, appreciating and trusting the Self while learning to overcome distressing thoughts, feelings, negative self-talk and reactions, it encourages the desire to put safe boundaries in place, and if people pleasing is an issue, it supports you to not feel guilt around this. Blended with this mode of therapy, I incorporate Schema Therapy and creative therapy, for when words alone are not enough. This modality offers an additional layer of safety to the protected parts of the self, which have experienced trauma.

When we are in crisis, paying attention to our quiet inner voice is key. Therapy helps you to hear it and to explore what it is trying to tell you that you need to know. The problem is our lives are full of background noise, responsibilities, others' needs and wants, bills, relationship dramas and conflicts, which, although they can go quiet for a while, may not be fully resolved. You may have noticed they are like cycles repeating in your life. Predictable dilemmas which can bring on increasingly harder ways to live, alongside feelings that can develop over time into depression, rising anxiety, unprocessed grief or activate historical trauma replays.

We all know that life can be very hard at times, yet some people sail through it. You might wonder how they do that.  In a nutshell, I will suggest it is because they have emotional and relational clarity, they know themselves, they have worked through their past, they accept themselves fully and will not be undermined by anyone else, they have healthy boundaries and they can mostly read others' motives, which safeguards them even more.

Having counselling and psychotherapy can develop these abilities in you. Therapy supports you to understand your emotions. It reveals your attachment style, how this influences the way you communicate, the decisions you make and if this is not working for you, how to make the changes that will work for you. Even if you are on a spectrum, this integrative approach will work for you.

What could you gain from therapy?

>Gain clarity as to why you feel the way you do, how to process your feelings and move forward again in life.

> Understand how the past impacts you in the here and now and how to release painful memories.

>How to process the past so you can live as you wish to instead of by compulsion to 'avoid' something.

>How to decide what is right and wrong for you

>How to self-soothe when overwhelmed or triggered.

>How to recognise the 'feelings that healing brings up' so you don't mistake it for something else.

>How to process and make sense of hidden feelings linked to shame or guilt, and understand how they got there in the first place.

>Explore your childhood and upbringing in a safe and non-shaming or blaming way, but with compassion and understanding for yourself.

>Learn to love your vulnerable self and see those parts as containing strength, beauty and wisdom.

>Learn to let go of trying to control others' behaviours to feel safe or secure or to not feel invisible.

>Learn about your attachment style in this context and how this influences your attraction to others, your behvioural responses and how to change styles if yours is not working out for you.

>Learn how to meet your own needs and not feel selfish

>Recognise subtle conditioning in relationships and how to set boundaries for yourself.

>Learn to create safe boundaries for you and others.

>Acknowledge and appreciate your 'soul qualities' and how we harm our soul, how it lets us know by developing feelings that can lead to 'anxiety and depression' or negative outcomes in your goals and aims for life.

>gain confidence

>And finally, whatever else you may want from therapy

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ADMINISTRATION

Dear Potential Client,

Therapy rooms and appointments are provisionally reserved by email, a phone call or by text, whichever suits you best. For In-Person therapy to go ahead, the therapy fee will need to be paid preferably two days in advance to enable me to secure and pay for the room in advance, which is a requirement of the centre, and most importantly, it also lets me know that you are planning to attend.

I offer full refunds if the full fee was paid two days or more in advance and you cancel 36 hours before. I reserve the right to retain part or all of the fee for same-day cancellations to cover any costs incurred, such as the room rental which is non-refundable on the same day of cancellation.

I hope this all sounds okay for you. I apologise that it does get in the way of the therapeutic process at the outset, though on the positive side, it does protect your rights as my potential client going forward.
