Lorna Kemp MA, MBACP (Snr Accred) Counsellor
Hello and a warm welcome to my profile. (Due to the Covid-19 crisis I am now offering mainly video and telephone counselling, with a few very limited face to face appointments). I have a friendly and informal professional approach and can help you to feel less isolated and develop your confidence to take more control over your life. Together we can work through your difficulties and confusing emotions, which at times can feel overwhelming and too hard to manage alone. I can support you in gathering the confidence and direction to make appropriate choices for yourself in order to feel stronger and safer.
How I can help:
I provide short and long-term counselling to adults, couples and young people over 12 years of age (although I regret I am not taking on under 18s currently during the Covid crisis - this may change soon). I have been self-employed since 2012 and have over 25 years’ experience of working therapeutically and effectively in a broad range of multi-disciplinary settings. These range from NHS to national charities to schools to prisons.
My specialisms are trauma, shame, grief and loss, relationship difficulties and sexual abuse. I can also help with many other problems that people bring including feeling generally stuck, panicky, anxious and/or depressed, and am happy for you to ring me to discuss your situation.
How I work:
My therapeutic approach is Person Centred and creative, and I regularly integrate other approaches e.g. solution focussed and cognitive. This means the way in which I work is always informed by you, and I believe that the counselling relationship is the most important aspect of therapy. I offer a confidential service and adhere to the Ethical Framework of the BACP.
My underpinning philosophy:
I have a firm belief in people’s capacity and desire to develop their perspective and fulfil their potential, given the right non-judgmental encouragement and support. Together we can find a way through your difficulties.
Please ring, text or email to ask about anything you would want to know – I am happy to answer any queries about how I work to help you decide if I am the right person for you. Our first session is another opportunity for us to think together about whether I am the right person to help you.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
