About me

Hello! My name is Lori Stafford.  As an experienced integrative Counsellor, I believe that every person is unique and has had different experiences. I am passionate about supporting individuals to improve their wellbeing and make positive changes in their lives by combining elements from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Person-Centred theories and tailoring the treatment according to individual’s needs.

Due to the lockdown, clients will be seen online via a secure and encrypted video conferencing platform called Zoom and my public liability insurance covers me for such work.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

Subject to the Covid pandemic and personal restrictions I will be working online. In person sessions will resume once the restrictions have been lifted and my website will be updated accordingly.

Alternative location - Woodbridge, Suffolk

I am also based in Woodbridge, Suffolk and will be offering in person counselling in due course.  Until then, all my work is online.

Chronic Illness

I have a special personal interest in chronic health and have considerable experience supporting clients with chronic ill-health conditions and diseases such as cancer, heart disease, lupus, MS, ME, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. I am very aware of the uniqueness and complexity of the grief and loss that surrounds chronic ill-health. In the counselling setting, it may not be the reason why a client enters therapy but perhaps acknowledging a client’s physicality could be of great therapeutic benefit.

Although not clinically trained in your particular condition, as your counsellor I will ensure that I have a basic understanding of the nature of your condition and together we will discuss the best way to use your sessions to focus on your concerns. It may be that in many sessions you choose not to discuss your health and use your session to discuss other issues as they arise and that are important to you to raise on that particular day.

Equality & Diversity Statement.

I believe that our “differences” should be celebrated.
I am committed to the provision of a service based on equality & respect for “difference”.
I aim to provide a service for people irrespective of “race”, culture, gender, sexuality, class, religion, HIV status, disability, age or language.
