About me

As I believe everybody should be able to afford counselling my rates can be discussed and negotiated subject to financial status.

I have twenty years of experience in working with mental health issues with a further eight years of working in substance misuse. I have several years of experience of counselling in different settings including a GP practice. I have experience of working with different age groups from different walks of life and I treat each person as an individual and offer a safe space where the individual can explore and work through issues without judgement and in confidence, and experience empathy and warmth.

I understand that finding the right counsellor can be daunting and it is important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you have chosen and to be able to build a therapeutic relationship.

The first session will be an assessment of your needs and expectations. During this session I will ask you about your reasons for coming to counselling, if you have been to counselling before and if so, how that experience was for you. I will go through the counselling agreement which includes an explanation of confidentiality, the frequency and length of sessions, arrangements for cancellation and the BACP code of ethics.

This also provides you with the opportunity to ask questions about the counselling process and the approaches I use.

It is important that you feel comfortable that we will be able to work together. You do not have to make a decision right away and you are welcome go away to consider this.

Hopefully you will decide you would like to work with me, in which case you can contact me later to arrange session, or you may decide to begin straight away and make this your first counselling session with me.

I am proud to say that feedback from clients is that they feel comfortable in speaking with me from a very early stage.

I have also been privileged to receive numerous enquiries as a result of client recommendation.

I believe that everyone has true potential, strength, and knowledge about themselves but at times may feel this is understanding is not present and may find life difficult.

Many clients report that through counselling they are more resilient than they had realised.

By engaging in the counselling process, you can find solutions and realise your potential.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
