About me

Hi and welcome to my profile!  I currently offer 1:1 sessions of CBT via Face-to-Face at my therapy room, or remotely by Telephone or Teams video, depending on a person's preference.

I am a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and a registered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).  I aim to provide a high-quality service offering professional, comfortable and confidential Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

What is CBT?
We can all experience difficult times in our lives that we may require help and support with.  CBT is a form of psychological talking therapy, which aims to help people of all ages manage emotional, physical and mental health difficulties.  It is an evidence-based treatment that is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines as the first line treatment for the successful management of many common mental health and addiction difficulties.

How can CBT help me?
When we experience distress we can often have negative feelings and thoughts (cognitions) which can influence how we might behave or deal with a certain situation (behaviours).  We can often find ourselves in a vicious cycle of negative thoughts and behaviours that can be hard to break.  CBT works on a 'here and now' basis, exploring your current difficulties and give you effective coping strategies to be able to make changes in your life and move forward.  Self help between sessions is an important part for therapy to be successful and helps to build on the knowledge and guidance gained during the therapy session.  This enables the client to put the coping strategies into practice in real-life situations, maximising success for making positive life changes.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc (Hons) Psychology
MSc Forensic Psychology
PgDip in CBT

I have 20 years experience working in the fields of both mental health and addictions, providing structured evidence-based psychological treatment.  Most recently prior to working in private practice, I worked as a CBT Therapist within NHS Primary Care Mental Health, providing both 1:1 and group sessions of psychological therapy within GP surgeries and other community venues.  Until recently, I also worked for 5 years for The Priory and I have a specialist interest in working with drug and alcohol addictions.

During my career I have worked in a variety of settings, such as NHS Mental Health, Private Sector, Community Drug & Alcohol Teams, Prison Service, Probation, Courts and Youth Justice.  I have experience of working with a variety of client groups and different age ranges from young people to older adults and also of providing both individual and group work sessions.

As a registered CBT practitioner, I am required to adhere to strict standards of practice and professional codes of conduct.  For more information on professional codes of conduct, please see the websites of the appropriate professional bodies.
