About me

People seek counselling for a wide variety of reasons and it may be for feelings of anxiety, unhappiness or dissatisfaction with life in general, depression, low mood or the experience of repeated relationship issues. Others seek counselling for painful emotions relating to life events and experiences including, generalised anxiety, illness, menopausal issues or bereavement.

My name is Liz Mace and as an experienced and fully Accredited & Registered member of the BACP, I work with adults on an individual basis. I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and reliable setting for our meetings together. My work is underpinned by a psychodynamic approach, and I also have experience working with other models of counselling including CBT, Mindfulness and Person centred modalities.

I offer weekly individual therapy, on either a short term basis (6-12 weeks) or longer term, open-ended therapy, depending on Assessment of need.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully Accredited and Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP, Accred) with an Accredited BACP and Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. I have full Professional Indemnity Insurance. My private practice is based in Highfield, Southampton.

I have experience of working in independent private practice, for charitable counselling organisations and for higher education, University Counselling Services. This has enabled me to continually develop my knowledge, expertise and skills. This experience has facilitated an in-depth knowledge and understanding with respect to the many and varied issues presented by clients.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
