Lisa Williams BSc MBACP NMC registered
Hello my name is Lisa and I am a qualified psychotherapist and I currently work with individual adults or young people aged 12 years and upwards. I offer a warm professional approach to working through a variety of issues particularly anxiety, stress, low self esteem and eating disorders this can be on an open ended basis or for an agreed time period.
Throughout my professional career I have witnessed how life challenges us as individuals and without the right support these difficult times can be even more painful to get through. I have seen the courage shown by clients when wanting to live a different way from that which their situation dictates and it is a privilege to be a part of the support that enables change.
I have found both personally and professionally that therapy can facilitate the change in feelings and behaviours enabling us to live a life that we find more satisfying. I believe that the opportunity to explore how we are living and personally develop ourselves is an invaluable experience that anyone can benefit from.
I don’t push or pull you in a direction, but work alongside you, and through talking about how we think , feel and behave will facilitate you to resolve the issues that may have been troubling or unresolved.
Transactional Analysis is the main theoretical model underpinning my work and it's theories are strongly based around on how we become who we are, how we relate to others and how we can make personal changes. It has a strong cognitive behavioural emphasis focusing on how we think about ourselves and the world and how this then affects our behaviour.
I also use Compassion Focused Therapy principles to explain why we may sometimes be experiencing difficulties and finding life challenging. The two modalities complement each other and provide a different way of considering how we relate to others and help us to view difficult situations with differing perspectives.
I have found through my work with clients and my own personal experience that we all have the capacity to find answers and solutions to the challenges we face in our everyday lives. The therapeutic relationship is key to this and I like to adapt a way to work that suits each individual client whether that is problem solving, finding strategies to help in difficult circumstances or just being present and listening. The rewards of working with a therapist who you can relate and connect too is immensely satisfying, I have seen this in my practice and experienced this within my own personal therapy.
