About me

Hello, my name is Lisa Thomas. I am an integrative counsellor and offer professional emotional support in a safe, friendly and confidential environment. You can discuss any difficulties that affect your emotional, psychological and physical well-being. You may feel angry, ashamed, depressed, anxious or a combination of emotions. Counselling is a talking therapy that enables you to understand these feelings and emotions, while discovering the underlying thought patterns that influence them, in an impartial and non-judgemental environment. This process will empower you to work towards self acceptance, facilitate change and improve your life and relationships.

Try not to be scared or nervous. I know contacting me is the first challenge but counselling could be the first move to a better life, when you can say:

'I'm not perfect....But I'm enough' Carl Rogers (On Becoming a Person, 1961)

As an integrative counsellor, I incorporate the Psychological theories of Person Centred, Psycho-dynamic and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I will use a combination of these theories to suit your individual needs.

At present, I am only able to offer telephone counselling sessions until the restrictions with Covid-19 have passed.

The first session will take the form of an assessment for each of us. For me, it is a time to discover some background information about you. More importantly, it is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about my practice and how we will work together. From this first meeting you will be able to decide if you are comfortable and able to talk to me. If you decide that I am the right person for you to work with, we will book a session and progress from there together. The sessions will run for as long as you require them, whether it is short term or long term.

If you feel uncomfortable or are unable to talk to me, we will not take the sessions any further. This will give you the opportunity to find the right counsellor for you and make the sessions as beneficial as possible. If this happens, I will not be offended because you are important, and need to address your issues and move forward in an appropriate setting.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
