About me

Sometimes when we become distressed, life can present us with many challenges. We learn to cope by using unhealthy habits to suppress our thoughts and emotions or sometimes we become so overwhelmed by them that it can feel very isolating and scary. Is this something you can relate to?

I am a fully qualified Cosca registered Counsellor and Holistic therapist with over 18 years of experience. I have worked within a wide range of professional settings including the NHS, council run organisations, the voluntary sector and within my own private practice.

I believe it is important to find a counsellor who you have a connection with therefore I invite you to attend an initial appointment to help you decide if I am the right person for you. I invite you to trust your gut instinct and you will not be offending me if you choose to keep looking around to get another counsellor that you find a better connection with. I describe this process to clients as;“finding a pair of shoes that fit comfortably”.

What is my approach?
I predominantly work using a Person Centred counselling approach along with using various other theories that I have learnt and connected to throughout my own personal and professional journey.

For me, The Person Centred therapist trusts the client to be the expert in their own experience, at a time when the client may have lost sight of this capacity. Rather than the client trusting the counsellor to have some special technique that will 'fix' them, the Person Centred counsellor invests her trust in the client, in their perspective and in their resources, so enabling them to find their own trust in themselves, and to act upon it. The intent of the Person Centred counsellor is not to fix or to patch up the 'problem' it is to enable the client to be both mender and maker in their own lives.

Throughout my years of continual learning and personal development, I have also been led to using more of an overall holistic approach which has proven to be successful with many areas of concern when dealing with poor mental and physical health. This concept of approach not only focuses on the mind but includes body work and energy work too.

What can I offer as your counsellor?
I can offer you a safe, confidential, warm and welcoming environment to be listened to, understood and responded to without any judgments or criticisms. This can help reduce feelings of anxiety and isolation when working through your process.

I will facilitate you to explore any triggers that might be causing you upset in the past or present, allowing you the find your own answers and move forward to a greater sense of wellbeing.

I have expertise in the following:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • addictions
  • eating disorders
  • bereavement
  • loss
  • anger management
  • relationship issues
  • postnatal depression
  • fertility issues
  • sexuality issues
  • low self-esteem
  • suicidal thoughts
  • study/work-related stress
  • childhood trauma
  • and the effects from either physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Where do the sessions take place?
I deliver my counselling and holistic therapy sessions within private premises in the North of Edinburgh. On street parking is available and regular bus service is in operation.

At the first session, we can discuss what you might like to get out of counselling, how often you would like to meet and any other relevant issues. It will also give you a chance to decide if you might like to come again and how you feel about us working together.
