About me

Welcome to L Marie D Counselling - Are you finding your life difficult at this present time?

My wish for you is to have a sense of ease to be comfortable to talk and express how you are feeling.  By listening I will do my upmost to understand your world with warmth, patience, non-judgement and compassion.

I am open to everyone.  Clients come from many walks of life,  with different concerns, problems and all manner of emotional distresses.  These range from loss and bereavement,  trauma, childhood neglect/abuse, domestic/sexual violence, relationship difficulties, work-related matters.  To low self-esteem, confidence issues, a loss/confusion of self and identity, anger.  A mental health diagnosis like depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorders and many more.

Living with these challenging sensations can at times become very overpowering, overwhelming and exhausting to deal with on your own.  Struggling to come to terms with the impact of these from the past or your present.  It might be that you would like to change things in your life, a feeling of being ‘stuck’, or unable to ‘let go’ and ‘move on’.  Feeling unhappy or uncomfortable and aren't quite sure why?

The therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is "key".  An environment of acceptance.  If we can build a mutual,  trusting relationship, then we can move towards developing your personal potential.

I believe that every individual has their own internal strengths and abilities.  Helping you to feel able to explore and untangle your experiences and feelings to release and reveal these, your unique abilities.

Aiming for self-empowerment, self-healing, self-belief a greater sense of self-worth and deserving.

To work at your pace in a non-directive approach, this means free from advice and judgments.  The answers that are right for you.

I work from home: Cherville Street, Romsey, Hampshire & The Practice Rooms, Catherine Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

I also offer Skype/Zoom & Telephone calls.

How can counselling help?

Untangling difficulties and areas of your life that are troubling you, so that you can become more clear and start to make sense of how you may want to move forward.  Friends and/or family maybe supportive, but it is sometimes difficult to confide in the people closest to you.

To make the right choices for yourself rather than being influenced by the outside world.

It can be helpful to talk with a professional, who is not personally involved in your situation without being judged or told what you should or should not feel about the way you do.  Because, it is all about you, your own experience in your life, in your own unique way.

I work in a way that respects you as an individual; your values and your beliefs.

How I work that can help you with your answers?

As a Person-Centred Psychotherapist/Counsellor, I will be genuine, honest, accepting and understanding within the therapeutic relationship.

The approach I use is known classically as Client Centred Therapy,  this was developed by the humanistic psychologist Carl Rogers back in the 1950's.

What to expect in your First Initial session:

Please contact me for an initial discussion over the phone free of charge.  This gives you an opportunity to voice any concerns and ask questions.  From there we can then both decide if we want to continue the counselling journey together.

If we both choose to go ahead, we will discuss a series of 60 minute sessions usually each week, and we can both find a mutually agreeable time and day.  The pattern of attendance can vary dependent on particular needs.

This will be part of an agreed contract that I will discuss with you at our first initial appointment. Generally I work on an ‘open ended’ basis, meaning we work with your goals in mind, and a time frame that feels right for you.

PLEASE BE AWARE that an email response from me; from your enquiry can/could/sometimes does end up in junk or spam folders - PLEASE CHECK these.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

There is a possibility of getting a parking space (bay) outside of my house, or another, hopefully close by. Romsey does have many car parks, with 'short & long stay' options. I work solely from home.
