About me

My approach

Therapy Support

As a Counselling Psychologist, my aim in therapy is to support you in coping with emotional distress within a safe and caring relationship.  We can work together to develop a thorough understanding of your difficulties and how best to meet your needs, preferences and circumstances.  My approach to therapy is to balance a personal understanding of your situation with evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT),  Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills (DBT Skills), Schema therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) .

Therapy is generally based on weekly/fortnightly meetings online or face to face over a number of weeks.

Neurodiversity Support - Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)/dyspraxia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

I can provide support with the functional and emotional difficulties often associated with dyslexia, DCD/dyspraxia and ADHD using evidence based methods including CBT and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills.  I provide a 12 week CBT/DBT Skills programme to help you develop strategies for executive function difficulties including time management, planning, attention, memory, impulsivity, adaptive thinking, emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships as well as work and study issues.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered practitioner Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society. I completed my Doctoral Training in Counselling Psychology at City University London in 2013.

As a Counselling Psychologist, my training included Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have also completed a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited certificate in Counselling Children.  My doctoral research was on ‘Young adults’ experience of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)’ or dyspraxia and I have completed a BPS approved certificate in educational testing (CCET).

I trained and worked in NHS England for five years practising across a range of clinical issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, phobia, OCD, low self-esteem and work related stress mainly using CBT.  In addition, I worked in a national veterans’ charity treating PTSD and I trained and worked for four years as a volunteer therapist in two national children’s charities with children and adolescents with childhood trauma and complex needs.  I have worked for seven years in private practice.
