I have an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am currently studying Psychotherapy and working on a further Supervision course.
I believe that the main focus of counselling is to support someone on their journey towards making their life better by helping to empower them to move forward in a positive way. The number of sessions this takes will vary depending on the problem, the length of time it has been around and on personal preference.
I have many years of experience both as a counsellor and a supervisor. Much of my work has been in the addictions field, specialising in alcohol but I also work with people on many other issues which affect their lives. An addiction is an indication that all is not well in a person's life so working with alcohol as a presenting problem leads into exploring underlying issues.
I also have a teaching qualification and have over 30 years experience in working with young people in Pupil Support in secondary schools. This involved using my counselling skills as much as my teaching skills and I retain an interest in working with adolescents.
