About me

As a Relate trained counsellor with over 30 years clinical experience.  I'm able to help you work through a wide range of issues and problems. I work both long or short term with individuals tailoring my approach to your needs.

Many of us have times in our lives when we would like things to be different.

We may feel sad, anxious, frustrated or overwhelmed.  We might feel dissatisfied with our work or relationship.  Maybe we want to come to terms with a loss or with past experiences.  Perhaps we want to develop our strengths, contribute to our communities more, or find more meaning and purpose in our lives.

What ever it is that you want to be different, counselling may be able to help.

I can offer you:

A safe and confidential environment to talk through complex or difficult issues.
Help you to see your situation from a fresh perspective.
Facillitate the development of a better understanding of your experiences.
Help you to build your confidence.
Enable you to cope better or deal with your situation in a more informed way.
Help you make sense of what is happening for you (or you and a partner) and a chance to think about what you can do better.

Generally counselling with me might involve:

Talking through an issue in order to understand things better.
Making sense of a particular problem.
Problem solving, planning and decision making.
Changing behaviour.
Negotiating a life transition.
Dealing with difficult feelings and emotions.
Finding, analysing and acting on information.
Undoing self-critisism and enhancing self care.
Dealing with difficult or painful relationships.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Currently I am working remotely as my therapy room is in my own home and I am unable to make it covid safe for all involved.  During Lockdowns many of us have become used to the convienience of attending appointments from the comfort of our own home and the advantages this brings. I understand that face to face is just too important to many people, me included.  I have however been surprised by the unexpected advantages of remote working and the accessability this gives to many people who otherwise would not be able to attend counselling.  I am happy to offer a free practice session if you are unsure how to go about remote working and feel the need for a practice.  I will send you a link or call you so there isn't too much you need to know.  It might be worth a try?
