About me

Sometimes life gets too difficult to deal with on our own and we need someone we can trust to share our feelings with, help us find hope and the strength to move on. I can help you understand your feelings, find your true self and find your way.

As a counsellor I have experience of working with many different issues including trauma, sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, and gender.

I also have experience of working with clients from different cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and walks of life. I do not judge people and treat everyone with the same openness and welcoming attitude. I strongly believe in equality across all genders, races and ethnicities.

I am happy to work with clients one to one on a long-term basis or short term as I have experience of both and understand that both can be effective. From experience I know that the length of time it takes for a client to reach a state whereby they can cope with everyday life can vary.

My training is in a relational approach to therapy and I use mainly person centered skills and techniques.

I work in rented rooms in various locations but always strive to provide a safe and confidential space for my clients where they can feel comfortable and relax as much as possible.

Above all else my work centers on helping my clients be who they really are, discover what is important to them and acknowledge their feelings.

If you are interested in working with me we can have an initial meeting to discuss working together and make sure we both feel comfortable with each other. Please email, text or phone to make arrangements.

Further information

Due to life experience and my training history there are three areas of client issues that I have worked with most.

The first is in the area of issues around long term and life affecting illness. For example heart failure, diabetes, skeletal degeneration and cancer. From personal experience I understand what it is like to come to terms with the emotional blow that a diagnosis of a life changing or affecting condition can bring, what it takes to come to terms with it and move forward with life. I also have experience of working with clients that have been affected by this.

The second area is working with those who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, sexual violence and rape. My voluntary work with Kinergy has given me a great deal of experience in this area with a wide cultural and age range in the client base.

My third area of specialism is gender identity issues. I have worked closely with the transgender community for many years and understand the emotional issues that arise for the transgendered. I also understand the emotional turmoil experienced by the loved ones and friends who struggle to come to terms with the wants and needs of the transgendered person in their lives.
