About me
Hey,
If this is the first profile you've visited, welcome in. If not, you'll be pleased to know this isn't another generic about me section that says the same thing as many others but in a slightly different way!
I want you to know that as a therapist, this is what I will do for you as a potential client:
- Always put YOU the client first.
- Structure a therapy session how you prefer it to be structured, so if you want me to lead a session whilst you find your feet, no problem!
- Not leave long silences throughout sessions (although some are good whilst we are both reflecting on our thoughts).
- Check in at the end of the session to make sure we are covering the things you need to work through and that I am understanding you properly.
- Always be honest and considerate in any conversations that we have.
- Be open about my own limitations as a therapist and a human and how that might be playing out in the therapy space.
- Be authentic in the way I communicate.
Training, qualifications & experience
My name is Lee Sims. I use the pronouns he/him.
I am a fully qualified, insured counsellor and psychotherapist who holds registered membership with The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as with The Association for Counselling and Therapy Online.
I offer Single Session, Short-Term or Long-Term therapy.
I specialise in providing counselling services to men and those clients struggling with transitions in their life. Such transitions could be:
Preparing for or leaving education.
Relationship breakdowns.
Changes in the family dynamics.
Bereavement.
Difficulties and challenges in being a parent.
I also work with those clients who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, low self-esteem and trauma, especially generational trauma.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
The counselling standard seems to be 50 minute sessions, but I believe that sessions which last an hour give the client that little bit of extra space to talk through what is going on for them.
I offer concessionary rates for students and trainee therapists, please contact me for further details.

Further information
When you enquire about starting therapy, the first step will be a free 30 minute consultation, conducted by either telephone or video call. This will give us both an opportunity to see if we feel comfortable working together and for you to ask any questions you might have about me or the therapeutic process.
If you decide to commence therapy, I will then email you a client information form to complete and my counselling contract. It is important for you to read the counselling contract before electronically signing it, to ensure you are comfortable with its content and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions about it.
Once the client information form and counselling contract have been returned, we will agree on the day and time for your therapy session.
I ask for payment prior to the session. Once payment has been received, I will email the video link to you or if you are accessing therapy by way of telephone call, I will contact you at the agreed time.
