The therapy that I offer is tailored to suit the individual or group that I am working with, often using my specialisms, which are art therapy and EMDR psychotherapy. My clinic is a Social Art & Therapy space, which I use to provide individual therapy, run therapeutic groups, and to paint in. I offer art therapy and talking therapy in this relaxed and safe environment, using EMDR mainly to address specific blocks, phobias, or past trauma. My practice also includes therapeutic rock climbing, social art, consultancy, and training.
Who do I help?
- adults who wish to overcome feelings and problems associated with past experiences and trauma
- people with difficulties communicating due to disability
- people with phobias
- children and adolescents who may be experiencing emotional and/or behavioural difficulties – perhaps as a result of a traumatic event or neglect
- professionals who wish to unlock their potential by expressing themselves more freely and expanding on their self-awareness
My approach is to work in partnership with my clients, to devise a programme and to work through difficulties as a shared endeavour. I offer sessions in South East London but also work in other areas. The first session is to explore whether the approach fits and how best to proceed.
In sessions I include psychoeducation, sharing information about the methods I am using in the therapy, and offering practical information that can be helpful, working transparently and with respect every step of the way.
I have been employed by Adult Social Services in Greater London for three years, where I worked from within a range of organisations, including Sutton Mental Health Foundation, Sutton Carers Centre, and the Jubilee Health Centre (NHS). I have also worked in Lebanon in a refugee camp and an addiction centre and have experience providing therapy in schools in the UK including primary, secondary, rehabilitation, pupil referral and alternative provision. Adults, children and adolescents attend therapy with me in SA&T's studio, where I also provide supervision for social workers and therapists.
Currently, through SA&T I work as the School Counsellor at La Sainte Union School in North London two days a week and provide trauma therapy and supervision for UK and international charities in the Woolwich studio.
I am registered with data protection and have a confidentiality agreement with all of my clients and colleagues.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold an MA in Art Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths University, London, am registered with the British Association of Art Therapists including on their list of recommended practitioners and supervisors and am registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) as a UK based practitioner. I am fully trained in EMDR therapy (levels 1,2,3,) with specialist Child and Adolescent training (level 1); I attend regular EMDR psychotherapy supervision and am a member of EMDR UK & Ireland.
Further experience includes the Mountain Training award for teaching and supervising groups on indoor climbing walls. This can be helpful in trauma work as I do not always confine therapy to the studio or clinic. Long term experience in yoga and martial arts also informs some of the more active work I do with some of my clients (eg. breathing techniques from tai chi chuan). This is on a case-by-case basis. I have a basic training in Shiatsu and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) that can also help people self soothe and build resources.
My clinical experience includes working with both adults and children: people suffering from addiction, self harm, refugees and migrants, victims of domestic abuse, the elderly and people suffering from mental health difficulties – both in the community and in health care establishments. I use a combination of EMDR and Art Psychotherapy in trauma work, with people who hoard, and with complicated grief; where I might also take people climbing.
My art practice has been active since year 2000, when I graduated from a Fine Art degree.
