Laurie Stottlaw - Cairngorm Counselling
Boat Of Garten
I am a Person-Centred Counsellor, offering both Indoor and Outdoor Counselling. You have the choice of which setting you would prefer. I also offer a Telephone Counselling service for those who find accessing counselling difficult, or would simply prefer this method of counselling.
The Person-Centred Approach fits well with my belief that we all have the potential to move our lives forward in a positive direction. I truly value the space created in the therapeutic relationship to allow for positive change. I recognise we are all unique individuals with unique needs. I, therefore, strive to work flexibly, in ways best suited to you. I offer a safe, confidential space to explore issues which may be causing confusion, difficulty or distress. You do not have to be in crisis, or on the verge of one before choosing to have counselling. You may be seeking greater balance in your life.
Many people will already be able to identify the positive feelings associated with spending time out of doors. It can give a sense of space removed from everyday strains and stresses and can give us a different perspective of ourselves and the world around us. It is widely accepted that physical activity can help improve mood, reduce anxiety and enhance self-perception. Therefore, a 'walk and talk' therapy session seems to be a complementary combination for supporting personal growth and change.
You do not need to be fit to choose outdoor counselling - the pace will be set by you. We may walk or find a place to sit and talk - whatever is right for you. It is possible to have a combination of indoor and outdoor therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked in the field of Personal Development in the Outdoors for over ten years. During the course of this work, I developed an interest in working therapeutically with individuals and also came to value the therapeutic benefit of an outdoor setting.
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, a BSc Honours degree and am an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning. I am certified in Telephone Counselling and am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their ethical framework. I am fully insured and attend regular, ongoing supervision, as required within the counselling profession.
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Anger management
- Carer support
- Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME
- Domestic violence
- Eating disorders
- Learning difficulties
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
The cost of a session is £35.
I work in and around Inverness and the Cairngorms National Park, offering both daytime and evening appointments.
I work on a one to one basis with clients. Sessions are approximately 50 minutes and are usually on a weekly basis. However, there is flexibility around this if it does not meet your needs. The number of sessions is determined by you. Some clients may find a few sessions are sufficient, whilst others might prefer longer term support. We will continually review our work together to ensure you are gaining the greatest possible benefit from it.
