Hello, I'm Lauren. I am a fully qualified and experienced professional counsellor. I offer a safe, warm and genuine approach to therapy.
I have worked in my private practice for five years, starting in central Bristol and then moving to Newport, South Wales in 2015.
My past work includes being a counsellor at Broadway Lodge rehabilitation centre for addictions, which has given me a vast array of experience of counselling around different areas.
Whether you are looking for someone to talk to about things you feel you cannot share with anyone else, are in a crisis point in life and need emotional support, require a confidential space to explore unresolved past experiences or memories, are maintaining addiction recovery and seek ongoing individual work, need an opportunity to reflect on your current situation in order to move forward, or would like to know yourself better as part of personal development; counselling is a way forward with these goals.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and relational. The 'integrative' part of this means that I am trained in and use therapeutic skills from different theoretical backgrounds in order to best suit each individual's needs and way of working. The 'relational' part of this means that I believe in the therapeutic, healing nature of forming a safe, trusting counsellor and client relationship. This also allows for patterns of behaviour that usually play out in the individual's life to be safely and securely explored as they emerge in the therapeutic relationship. Through this exploring we can look at which patterns are helpful for healthy relationships and wellbeing.
Counselling sessions will be currently be conducted on Zoom, Skype or alternative online platforms in order to prioritize the ongoing health and welfare of clients at this time.
Every counsellor is different, just as every client and their needs are different. I welcome questions about my therapeutic approach and sessions, so please don't hesitate to contact me.
"A few months ago I hit rock bottom and really didn't know where to turn or what to do. I was literally scared of facing up to life itself. So I decided upon counselling and contacted Lauren. My work with her has improved my life immeasurably. From being very unemotional and closed, I am now very open and honest. I am now able to cry openly and not be embarrassed at all about that fact. This is something I can say I haven't really done in a long time. Everytime I wake up I look forward to the day, and I'm not running away from any challenges no matter how scared I am. None of this would be remotely possible if it wasn't for the help and support from Lauren. To quote a very bad song from a very bad album, it's getting better man."
"After struggling with various issues for years I finally made the decision to seek help. Upon meeting with Lauren I was immediately put at ease with her natural warmth and professionalism. Throughout my therapy Lauren has helped me to gain the insight, clarity and ultimately the resolutions to issues that I so badly needed, I now look forward to a brighter more confident future."
"I worked with Lauren over a period of fourteen weeks. When we first met I was broken - physically, spiritually and emotionally. Gently, she helped me to trust, explore and make sense of a myriad of life events that ultimately led to addiction, self harm and eating disorders. Intuitively she worked creatively with me which I found to be really helpful in tackling the most difficult of problems. It was a liberating, amazing collaborative experience. A year on I am living the life I had only dreamed of - Lauren gave me hope support and enabled me to move on with my life. It was an incredible journey."
"Seeing Lauren was a relaxing and rewarding experience. I moved from being in a constant ‘fight or flight’ mode with little self worth; to gaining an understanding of myself by exploring how episodes within my past affect my actions and my self-valuation 'in the now’. My goal of a more confident and relaxed me has been reached and my daily life is immeasurably richer as a consequence.Lauren is a commensurate professional. She is engaging, understanding and non-judgemental. She has a calming manner, and has an ability to put one at ease, even when internally one may feel anything but calm. Lauren’s extensive professional skills and learning is all you could need to maximise your potential and embrace life!"
"Lauren is the KEY to life-changing support!
I went to Lauren after a failed attempt to seek support from my GP around disordered eating and body dysmorphia following childhood sexual abuse. I was at a point where I felt dismissed, totally invalid and lost. The idea of choosing a counsellor was completely overwhelming. Luckily, I pushed through my discomfort and came across Lauren. I chose her because of her counselling areas, expertise and diverse range of therapeutic approaches.
Lauren made me feel comfortable from the first moment I met her. Her warm smile and cuppa at the ready put me entirely at ease and during the first session and I felt comfortable enough to disclose things that I hadn’t even said out loud before.
Trauma recovery is a long and slow process, and throughout my 18 months of support, Lauren gave me the time and space to process issues at my own pace, through both talking and art therapy. Her unconditional acceptance made me feel safe and valid throughout.
Lauren has helped me become the person I have always wanted to be but had no idea how to become. I cannot recommend her enough."
"From my very 1st informal conversation with Lauren, I knew that I was going to be able to put my trust in her. Lauren is professional, balanced, warm and friendly and offered support, guidance, reassurance, confidentiality, and empowerment throughout our sessions. I knew immediately that we would get along. She has helped me enormously and has given me faith in myself once again. I would have no hesitation in recommending Lauren. Even though we did all of the sessions remotely, the sense of connection was not lost or diluted in any way."
