Counsellor ~ MBACP Registered Therapist

About me

Welcome, my name is Laura and I am a fully qualified, BACP registered counsellor experienced in providing therapeutic counselling to individual adults.

You may be looking for a therapist or counsellor to address a specific issue, perhaps an experience from the past that is impacting you now, or there may be a general feeling that something is not quite right.

Many people find talking with someone, in confidence, helps them discover who they are and helps them make informed, self-loving and kinder choices.

Therapy and counselling help you discover the real you, creating awareness, acknowledging and dealing with repressed feelings and getting in touch with your innate self-worth. Which, in turn, promotes personal autonomy and the resilience to deal with life's challenges.

My approach.

My passion is to get to the heart of the matter, by holding a compassionate, kind, and supportive space. I hold the belief that everyone has the answers within them and is far more capable than they currently perceive. It is a two-way, co-creative approach, where growth occurs and to find new and better ways to live.

I work with a full range of emotional issues, difficult life events, impact of family relationships and unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior. I also work with the spectrum of gender and sexual expressions of the LGBTQIA+ community and recognise the importance of culture, race and identity in how we meet the world.

As an inclusive therapist I actively provide understanding and a place to be understood. My goal is to work with people who wish to improve and enrich their relationships, with themselves, others and the world.

What to expect working together.

I offer online, telephone, 'in the room' counselling as well as walk and talk therapy. I draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches, integrating Relational ways of working within a Transactional Analysis and Humanistic framework. While theories and tools are helpful, the foundation of our work is built on a safe, ethical and respectful working relationship.

Firstly, I offer a free 15-minute telephone conversation so that you can share why you are thinking of coming to therapy and what your hopes are. This gives us both the opportunity to see if I am the right person for you.

If you decide you would like to continue, your first session is spent discussing what brings you to therapy, what you would like to explore, what your hopes are and how we work together. I welcome any questions or concerns that you may have.

I look forward to hearing from you.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
