About me

Welcome to my profile.

Hello I'm Laura, I am a professionally qualified and registered counsellor working with individual adults both 'in the room' in Salisbury, as well as nationally online.

Acknowledging your need for a counsellor can be quite a step, particularly as many of us value our ability to work things out for ourselves. However, sometimes thoughts and feelings can feel challenging and overwhelming. Life experiences may need support processing and it can be a relief when we do not have to face these difficulties alone. It is normal and healthy to seek guidance. My approach is rooted in my personal experience that therapy changes lives.

Talking with a trained therapist provides you with with a compassionate space, to unravel your thoughts and tell your story. Helping you to make sense of your experiences with the view to finding new perspectives, ways of coping, relieve discomfort and move forward.

I aim to support you and work with you on areas that you would like to understand and change, so that you can lead a more fulfilling life. Improving your relationship with self and others.

I value the importance of establishing trust and building the therapeutic relationship, and I bring enthusiasm, empathy, creativity and humour to my client work. I believe it is the the relationship between client and therapist that is key to meaningful change.

This is why I offer a 15 minute free telephone consultation, providing an opportunity to check that I am the right therapist for you, with no obligation to continue.

Book your free consultation appointment by visiting my website home page www.engagecounsellingservice.com or alternatively you can email me at enquiries@engagecounsellingservice.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

My private practice is in Lower Bemerton, Salisbury, off Wilton Road (A36) and within easy walking distance of Salisbury train station. Free parking is available.

Temporary changes in provision

Due to the current public safety measures, I am only providing online (zoom, Skype of Facetime) and telephone counselling. This may not be for everyone and can taking some getting use to, for others it can have its advantages. Regardless of format I will remain consistent and attentive in my observations and responses to you.

I aim to respond to all emails and messages as soon as possible and within 24 hours.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered and qualified counsellor working relationally, using a Transactional Analysis approach to my work. This means that I pay attention to the conscious, non-conscious communication between us to give me some understanding of your relationship patterns with others. Bringing these unconscious patterns to the surface can be transformational.

My experience includes (but not exclusively) working with: anxiety, stress, depression, loss, low-self esteem, trauma, anger and relationship difficulties.

Alongside working privately, I practice at a Wiltshire charity that provides low cost counselling to adults.

For the last 16 years I have extensive experience of working in public and charitable organisations that support vulnerable young people and adults with diverse and complex needs (addiction, trauma, abuse, unpaid carers, domestic violence, mental health issues, disability and long term health concerns).

I have an enhanced DBS Certificate for adult and children. I hold full Professional Liability Insurance provided by Towergate Professionals and undergo regular supervision with a fully qualified supervisor. At my work I abide by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy's Ethical Framework, who are ready to confirm my membership.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
