About me

We can all struggle at times and one of the kindest things we can do for ourselves is to talk to someone about how we are feeling. Sometimes we can identify why we feel as we do - as a result of a loss, a relationship difficulty or a change in our circumstances. However, often we are unsure – we are just not ourselves, lacking confidence or a sense of purpose. For whatever reason, things seem unsettled and we can experience all sorts of difficult emotions.

Counselling could help…

I am an experienced Person-Centred Counsellor and I offer short and ongoing therapy – a safe and confidential space to reflect on your feelings and emotions at your own pace. I will listen intently, without judgement to whatever you bring and together we can explore your thinking, perhaps triggering new perspectives or connections, leading to new understandings.

I hope you can feel safe enough to experience a space to talk without having to filter what you say and get the chance to consider what is going on for you. This precious time could be where you really hear yourself and gain some personal insight and self-awareness, enabling you to move forward at a more conscious level. I will be there to support and help you find your own ways of dealing with what has been holding you back or causing you distress.

I believe you are the expert in your own life - although it may not seem like it just now. We all have it within us to make our own decisions and with the support of the counselling relationship, you can begin to understand and trust yourself better and live more authentically. The anguish of not living true to ourselves is at the heart of many of our problems.

Reaching out for help can be daunting, particularly if you are not sure about what to expect or how things may turn out. A relationship based on mutuality is the key aspect in counselling. It is so important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor, that you feel there is a connection and a trust between you. Please contact me before we start if you would like to find out a little bit more about the process or to talk about any apprehensions you may have, and we can see if I can offer what you think you need at this time. I appreciate that it takes courage to reach out for help and I hope you can find what you need to move forward

Currently I offer counselling via telephone or video calling (WhatsApp, Skype Zoom or Teams)

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling at Aberdeen University and I am registered (registrant 4221) with COSCA - Scotland's professional body for counselling and psychotherapy. I work within the ethical boundaries and I am committed to continued professional development. My background is in healthcare and I have experience in working with a diverse group of clients going through a wide range of issues and concerns in private practice and for a voluntary organisation. I have been particularly involved in supporting people who have found themselves in a caring role and the impact that may have had on lifestyle and identity.
