About me

Hello, I'm Laura. I'm 39 and I live in the Lowestoft area. I have been working in private practice since 2017.

The counselling I offer is about working together to find new ways forward, so you feel less alone in whatever it is you're going through. Giving the  space that enables you to figure out the way forward, the things that need to be spoken about and the changes that need to be made. I will guide, question and direct at times, when it feels appropriate but the way forward is determined by you and what you would like from the sessions.

Whilst I have seen many clients with different concerns I specialise in the following areas;

  • Anxiety
  • 3 Step ReWind for difficult & traumatic experiences & phobias including pregnancy/birth/postpartum experiences
  • Walking and reflective therapy in nature
  • Creative therapies for adults and teens.

The space I provide is a delicate balance of sensitive listening and authentic presence. I am flexible in my approach, which naturally differs from person to person.

A little about me

After experiencing depression and anxiety I became a client in my early twenties. My own recovery inspired me to become a counsellor to have the chance to help others, like yourself. I have had panic attacks, generalised anxiety and pure OCD. In the most difficult phase I could barely leave my house. Years later I travelled alone to Australia, staying for 10 months.

I know what it feels like to live with a constant worry distracting you from life. It's exhausting.

The counselling

I've worked with a wide range of clients and have experience of knowing what works well. My counselling style will be influenced by who you are and what you are experiencing. I can offer techniques for anxiety and stress reduction if appropriate.

Walking and reflective therapy in nature

Some people also find being in a room, initially too overwhelming. Walking side by side appears to lower the anxiety for clients with the added bonus of some exercise!

Being in nature has proven to have many physical and psychological benefits. Helping us to be present and feel connected with the World around us. Natural spaces have a calming effect on us, this allows a 'slowing down' which can offer a reflection of our feelings and thoughts.

We can use the natural resources we find to help make connections to how you may be feeling, sometimes feelings can be more easily expressed through metaphors and the things we see around us. We can walk slowly and can choose to sit if you would prefer.

I offer sessions on the beach in Pakefield, at Gunton woods, Carlton Marshes, Beccles Common & Beccles Quay (Marsh Lakes walk).

Creative therapies

As a creative person, I know first hand the benefits of expressing things through a creative medium. We can work together creatively to make sense of what you are going through / feel stuck on. Creative ways of working can include using cards, paints, spider diagrams, objects, charcoal, figurines, sand tray etc.

Re-Wind

I am a qualified Re-Wind practitioner, originally to work with birth trauma but the technique can be applied across the board. Any particularly challenging and distressing experiences can be worked with in this way, which involves talking as little or as much as you would like. The technique involves relaxation and being with the memories in a disconnected way.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
