Laura Buckingham MBACP
Hello, thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. There are so many counsellors to choose from, it can feel overwhelming to find the “right fit” for you. Hopefully the following information will give you all you need to know, however please phone me if you are not sure about anything.
I am a qualified Counsellor working in an integrative way, which means I support each person in an individual and unique way using the approach which will best suit their needs. I am here to help you to see things from a different perspective, walk alongside you and help you to work through this difficult time. My aim is to support you and give you the tools and coping strategies to be more equipped and able to handle your emotions or situations with confidence and clarity.
I work in a very relaxed and friendly way, ensuring you feel safe and secure. Over several years since I qualified I have worked with a very diverse group of people including young children, teenagers and adults. I help support:
- Generalised anxiety disorder
- Panic attacks
- Relationship issues (incl. divorce, separation, abuse, affairs and betrayals)
- Low self esteem/confidence
- Stress and overwhelmed or just simply feeling sad
- Self Harm
- Eating issues
- and many more
All sessions are tailored to each client and set at your own pace. The initial session is a time to see if we can work together successfully for the best outcome for you.
Having had counselling myself over the years, I am aware first-hand of the huge benefits talking to someone can bring and how it has helped me through some difficult times. I do understand that making the initial contact can feel like a big step, with many mixed emotions. This is why I would encourage you, at this stage, to make the contact and take that first step.
You can either contact me by email or telephone on 07951 400390 - whichever you feel most comfortable with. I will endeavour to reply within a few hours and will always get back to you within 24 hours.
Once we have communicated, I will have explained everything to you, so you know exactly what you can expect from a counselling session with me. After the initial assessment over the phone or by email, I will suggest meeting with you to explain everything in more detail and to give you the opportunity to meet me and see if you feel comfortable with my style of working.
If you decide to come back then usually we would meet once a week, but again I will be guided by you and what you feel is best.
Thank you for taking the time to read the 'About Me' section. Please read on for further information.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and I have had training in the following areas:
ABC level 4 Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling, which includes;
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which looks at how our thoughts can affect our behaviour and the way we feel. Within this area I have many tools and approaches that can help significantly.
- A Person-Centred approach, which means I will walk alongside you and support you with whatever you bring to each session.
- As I have experience with working with children and young adults, I can work in a more creative way, using art, playdough, cards, stones and games to help explore your emotions in a safe and nurturing environment.
As one of the few counsellors in the area who works with children and teenagers, I feel passionately about supporting people from a young age. I believe that if they can learn to become more self-aware and to develop tools and strategies to help grow in confidence and feel happier, then I have helped to send them on their way into adolescence and adulthood better equipped for what life may throw at them.
I am currently working in both Primary and Secondary schools supporting children aged from 5 to 18 in many different areas. Including attachment disorder, ADHD, ASD (autism), abuse, self harm, behavioural concerns, low self esteem, anger related issues, relationship problems and eating disorders. In addition to this, much of my work is supporting students with school related anxieties, for example exam stress and coping with the many changes that are facing them.
I have previous experience of working with a number of families who have adopted children. I work with both the child and individual family members to support them during this very unique and often challenging time.
I have also worked with people who are terminally ill and at the end of their lives, offering support and comfort.
I believe there is always hope and offer an empathic, holistic, congruent and safe place to be heard and not judged.
I have up to date First Aid Training in the Work Place and Paediatric First Aid.
If you would like an initial no obligation session, then please call me to arrange an appointment. My contact number is 07951 400390. Please leave a message if you get my answering service, and I will always call you back.

Here are testimonials from some of my previous clients:
"Laura has been a god send to my daughter and to us as parents she has helped my daughter through some very difficult situations and didn’t once waver in her resolve to see her through it all.
Laura was the only person to listen and take our views into consideration and work with us to achieve the goals we had set for my daughter. I can’t recommend Laura enough and teens and adults would be lucky to have a truly amazing and understanding counsellor."
Parent of teenage client
"Laura is a great lady, she worked with me for two years, she would help me when I was struggling, needed advice or was in need of assistance! She will sit there an she will listen to what you have to say, and she won't jump to assumptions, she will listen and she will tell you what the best thing is.Laura helped me with my anger issues, friendship issues and school issues! She changed me from such a naughty girl to a girl who understood it more, and had a complete change of mind about school and wanted to improve my school attitude!!"
I have worked with Laura as my counsellor for two years and have found her manner of working with me to be very effective. She is an excellent listener and gave me very useful feedback. I would certainly recommend her if you are looking for someone with which to work.
