Life is for living but sometimes we encounter difficulties that can make us feel, for example, stuck, frustrated, sad, angry. Talking to a counsellor can alleviate these feelings and help you to discover insights into how you feel.
I am located in Glasgow's West End, close to Kelvingrove, Woodlands and Charing Cross, and I offer Counselling and Psychotherapy for individuals, couples, students, Employee Counselling (EAP), business consultation and Supervision for therapists.
I graduated from my counselling diploma course in 2006 when I was in my forties and established my Private Practice in 2007. I have worked since then as a generic counsellor/ psychotherapist in the voluntary sector, self-employed within an agency and in Private Practice.
I also worked supporting people, over a period of 10 years, who had experienced crime and understand the emotional and practical impact that this can have.
What to expect
I have a professional approach which is drawn from in-depth training and professional development in: counselling, psychotherapy and therapist supervision.
I offer a range of personal counselling and professional support that could assist with any area of your life that is causing you difficulty and can help you discover your own strengths and personal resources for coping with self-development and change. Counselling can be helpful for personal growth not just for when a problem arises.
I mainly provide talking therapy but I can adapt my approach in relation to your needs. I find sometimes working with client’s photographs, the use of objects and visualisation can help the clients unearth deep seated feelings that they are unaware of, which may continue to affect their lives in the present.
You can choose a set of sessions (usually minimum 6) with the option to review or open-ended therapy. The sessions are of a 50 minute duration and are normally weekly. Unfortunately, I am unable to extend the 50 minute appointment time should you find you arrive late for the session.
Discounts are available for students and unwaged. These discounts apply only to daytime weekday appointments.
Couple counselling is also available.
I also provide telephone counselling appointments - please see Telephone Counselling page on my website for further details.
Supervision for therapists. Please visit my Supervision page on this Counselling Directory for further information.
Businesses: Employee Assistance (Counselling)
Employee Assistance (Counselling):
I hear from business owners like yourself that they can sometimes feel embarrassed and helpless when their employees disclose mental health or personal issues which are affecting their work in terms of e.g. sickness absence, relationships with their colleagues, motivation.
Sometimes I hear different, employees won’t disclose their issues with their employer as they feel shame, fear of being judged, losing their job or damaging career prospects.
I provide a confidential outside source for you where the employee can discuss these issues and we can find a way forward.
Some examples of issues are:
• Low Mood
• Different types of loss e.g. redundancy
• Money problems
• Affects of Domestic Abuse
• Abuse in Childhood
• Relationship Issues
• Role of Carer
• Self Harming
• Self Medicating
• Loss of motivation, confidence
• Lack of self-worth
• Disproportionate anger
When issues aren’t addressed, whether because you as the employer, are struggling to know what to do or the employee doesn’t wish to disclose, this can cause anxiety and frustration for you in terms of loss of time and money.
In addition, having this provision in place can give you peace of mind. The Supreme Court decided that tribunal fees are unlawful and a barrier to justice, abolishing them with immediate effect. If an employee feels you’ve treated them badly, there’s nothing to stop them making a claim against you and that could have a devastating effect on your business. All employment tribunal judgements now go on the internet for anyone to see.
You might feel it would make sense to meet and find we may have some common ground. This investment might be of no benefit to your business or I may not be able to help therefore there would be no follow up unless something changes for you.
I also provide workshops, a bespoke and consultative service for employers, coaches and mentors.
Costs for all my services are shown in 'Fees' Section.
For further information about all my services please visit my website or contact me by phone or e-mail.
