Dr Kulsoom Jawaid Malik (Clinical Psychologist)
I am Dr Kulsoom Jawaid Malik, a clinical psychologist. I am currently the director for London Psychology Centre and lead a team of specialist psychologists and counsellors.
My organisation was born out of the need of supporting the South Asian community with their mental health issues. Often mental health issues are dismissed in our community and people do not access support due to stigma, lack of appropriate services and lack of information.
We therefore operate out of three locations: Birmingham, West London and Pakistan.
I specialise in delivering a culturally competent service. This means that I place a particular focus on adapting therapy to suit your cultural background. Research tells us that people are often dissatisfied with psychology services because they feel their therapist does not understand their background.
I am able to provide a service through secure video conferencing, face to face or on the telephone. I am fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi. This takes the need out of having a translator present in your consultation, where details may be "lost in translation".
Meeting a clinical psychologist can be a daunting experience for some because you can have so many questions such as" how many sessions", " can I really overcome my issues". My team are always on hand to answer any queries you may have, so do not hesistate to email us on info@londonpsychologycentre to ask anything you may be wanting to know.
Typically, any issues relating to therapy will be answered by myself. In most cases I would need to complete an assessment with you. In our assessment we will look at your difficulties. We will hypothesise together on issues such as any vulnerability factors that may have made you susceptible to developing mental health issues. We will look at any significant events and what may be maintaining your difficulties. Once we have explored these issues, we can discuss your treatment plan.
It is important to stress that the whole process is collaborative and everything will be discussed in strict confidence at your pace.
