I originally trained with the Gloucestershire Counselling Service over twenty years ago obtaining a qualification in Psychodynamic Counselling. Over the years I have done various other courses exploring different models of counselling along with an intensive year spent in the development of self awareness.
I consolidated this work more recently obtaining a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling at Newman University, Birmingham.
My counselling work, whatever the training modules have been, has the same aim, i.e. a desire to help and enable troubled individuals to understand and address whatever it is that is the cause of their psychological stress and distress.
I believe in the power of counselling and therapy. I have been on the receiving end and have experienced it's power in the development of self understanding and the positive changes that can be made as a result of that. It is a safe place for 'me' time. A place where many of the problems that afflict human beings can be explored, felt, understood and maybe changed... a safe place for you to experience and get to know YOU.
Finding and knowing ourselves can help us to find ways to make peace with ourselves and maybe others, accept the things that we cannot or do not want to change but enable us to make positive change to those things that we can and do want to change. We see that we have choices in life.
Being listened to and heard by a trained and willing helper gives us the opportunity to voice our thoughts and hear ourselves in a non judgmental and confidential environment. In counselling we can know and understand our true feelings, find ways to express ourselves more freely, look at our values and our own shortcomings with honesty. We can reconnect with our strengths looking at who and what is important in our lives.
A place to learn to respect and care for ourselves.
