About me

The basis of any effective therapeutic work is located in the relationship between therapist and client. I strive to make my clients feel safe, welcome and valued from our first meeting. My strength is in making connections with people in order to fully understand their issues and needs, while establishing a safe and trusted place for clients to express themselves. I am particularly experienced in working with men who struggle with the idea of attending counselling and expressing their feelings. As an experienced men's counsellor I fully appreciate the challenges many men feel in 'opening up' to a stranger and discussing personal issues they normally keep to themselves. Sometimes women also prefer to choose a male counsellor for a variety of reasons and I am very comfortable engaging with the female perspective.

I have a genuinely unique breadth of experience and skills in working with young people, not just in counselling but also in youth work and the education sector.  My interpersonal skills allow me to 'connect' with young people in a manner essential to allowing them to share their issues and concerns in a safe environment. Having until recently spent my life in North East London I can readily relate to people from all backgrounds, religious and ethnic groups and positively value diversity of all kinds. As an integrative therapist I am flexible in my approach and sensitive to the individual needs of clients.

If you are considering counselling for yourself, or a young person you are concerned about, why not book an initial session with me and see where it leads?

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed a BACP accredited counselling and psychotherapy course at the University of East London, which has equipped me to practice a number of approaches to counselling depending on the needs and circumstances of the client. As well as my counselling qualifications I am a professionally qualified youth and community worker and teacher and have worked successfully with young people throughout my adult life. I am now an experienced and successful counsellor who has a lifetime of working with people from all backgrounds and a gift for connecting with people in order to build a trusting working relationship.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
