Hello and welcome to my profile.
My name is Kessie and I am a qualified counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
How I Work
My approach is integrative which means that I am trained in a number of therapeutic models and I combine this with my skills and experience to best suit your needs.
I work from a dedicated counselling room based in a wellbeing centre where we can meet in a private space with someone you can trust. I also offer online and telephone sessions if that is more convenient for you. I offer long and short term therapy but would suggest a minimum of six sessions to get started. Weekly sessions are most effective but fortnightly can also work if required.
The Type of Clients I Work With
Whether you are feeling anxious, low or simply not sure how to move on with your life it may help to talk to someone who is impartial in safe confidential space. Session can be targeted at reducing symptoms and working towards solutions to the problems you may currently face. I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is crucial to the success of our work together and as such offer a free introductory call so you may ask any questions and decide if we are a good match.
My Style of Counselling
My style of counselling is warm, empathic and based on a collaboration between equal partners. The goals of therapy are greater self-awareness, identification of patterns that may be limiting you, building confidence and your ability to self-regulate. By the end of our work together you will have a "tool kit" of resources to call on in order to support yourself going forward.
I use a range of techniques such as mindfulness and I am happy to work creatively to find methods that work for you. I have experience of counselling within a University and a local charity. I take a positive approach to diversity and I have taken training in LGBT and Trans awareness.
A recent reference from one of my clients;
''Before I started counselling I was going through a tough time in my life. I didn't feel like anyone could understand it or help but I really wanted to change something. On my first session with Kessie she immediately created an atmosphere of peace and I felt safe to talk about my problems. These counselling sessions helped me get to know myself, a relationship I neglected for years in my life. Since the counselling I started building confidence and focus on gratitude.
Kessie's professionalism, friendly attitude and kindness make it very easy to talk to her. The questions Kessie asked helped me to realise what it was that I wanted to change as well as some unhelpful thought patterns I had. We have been working together for a few months now and I noticed many positive changes in my relationships, professional life, attitude and way of thinking. I would highly recommend counselling sessions with Kessie. '

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
