I am a qualified person centred counsellor who can offer counselling around a wide range of issues, on a short term or long term basis. I am a warm compassionate person who can offer you that safe confidential space that's free from judgement, where you are able to explore your feelings on whatever may have brought you to counselling. Counselling can offer you a space where you can talk about your feelings on whatever may be troubling you, which in return could offer you clarity and understanding. I am based in Colchester and I work within a beautiful, tranquil woodland setting which offers free parking.
The approach that I work within
The Person Centred Approach works on the fundamental belief that all humans possess the tools from within which gives you the capacity to help you move forward and grow. At times these tools can be difficult to reach as you may have become stuck, especially if something has impacted upon you and trying to move forward or just not knowing how may not come easy. You can easily get lost under the undergrowth of a situation, and life can become very tough, foggy and unclear. Counselling can help you clear away that fog, as by talking through your issue it can offer you further insight into your current situation. Counselling is allowing yourself that time and space to explore and work on yourself, which in return can offer movement, and get to you to a place where you feel you would like to be.
How I work
I have the greatest respect that this is your journey and your process, and the counselling that I offer is done at your own pace. You may be feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, lost in direction, sad, angry, hopeless, betrayed, experienced loss, it could be anything and that you need that someone to talk to. Sometimes we get caught up in trying to please others, we can carry others expectations which in return can affect our being. You may be locked into a cycle of behaviour where you may have the inner awareness that it's serving you no good and that you have sought counselling to change that, or at least look at what is going on. I have a genuine passion for listening, respecting and working therapeutically with my clients on whatever they bring into the room. I endeavor to make you feel as comfortable as you can as I am aware that counselling can seem a little daunting. I offer an initial assessment at first where you can meet me and work out if you want to continue on working with me.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Psychotherapy which is a professional body and I abide by their code of conduct and adhere to their ethical frame work.
I attend regular supervision sessions as part of my professional practice which ensures that I am working ethically, effectively and professionally with my clients.
I am also committed to attending 30 hours of CPD (Continuing professional development) each year.
