About me

Are You Suffering From Stress, Anxiety and/or Depression?

I Can Help with these difficulties.

My name is Keith Fernandes and I’m a counsellor working in private practice in Leeds City Centre. I provide a calm and secure environment in which you can safely explore the difficulties you are experiencing. Working together on agreed goals we will build a strong working relationship which will provide the vehicle through which we can affect positive change. I will help you gain a better understanding of your difficulties and help empower you to make the changes that will positively affect your life. I can help with a range of issues but I have a special interest in stress, anxiety and depression.

Background

A little about my background; I have travelled to various countries and have spent time living abroad. This experience has helped me to relate to people from different backgrounds and cultures. Through counselling I overcame some of my own difficulties and several years later felt I had found a career I was passionate about. Counselling has helped me so much and still continues to do so. I’m now lucky enough to be in a position where I can help people reach their potential and live happier lives. Many people have commented on how calm and grounded I am. Hopefully, these qualities will ensure you feel relaxed and at ease in our sessions together.

How do I choose the right counsellor?

It can be difficult choosing a counsellor as you can’t be sure if you’ll get along with him or her just by reading a profile. I understand this, as I had the same problem when searching for my own counsellor. For this reason, I offer a free 15min phone call where we can briefly discuss your needs. If you are happy to proceed we can then arrange an initial meeting which lasts 30-40mins. This meeting gives you the opportunity to meet me in person but also allows me to get a better idea of the difficulties you are facing. It is then your choice whether you'd like to continue and schedule some regular sessions.

Now What?

To get in touch, either text me on the mobile number above or click the 'email me' link. If I can't answer the phone please leave me a message and let me know the following details and I will call you back:

  • your name
  • your contact details
  • and the best time to contact you

I will aim to return your call/text/email within 48 hours. I look forward to hearing from you.

Further Information

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Ethical Framework. I practice using the relational model which focuses on the common factor across most if not all therapeutic approaches; the relationship between the counsellor and client being the vehicle for change to occur. By providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space and by working collaboratively, I aim to build a strong therapeutic relationship. Working relationally I can then employ whichever approach best suits my client such as Person-Centred, Gestalt or Transactional Analysis.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
