About me

Hi there,

I appreciate it's not always easy asking for help or even knowing how to articulate what it is you need some help with, which is fine! Together we would explore and make sense of challenging situations and behaviours that may be holding you back, working on coping strategies, building resilience and awareness, making shifts towards how you want to be in yourself.

Talking through some of the obstacles or stuff getting in your way can be an enormously freeing and empowering experience.

Sometimes unexpectedly, events can knock our self-confidence and our self-esteem can feel shaky, which can be shored up in therapy, supporting you in your day to day life, helping you to manage anxiety and or elements of depression.

I combine psychodynamic theory with the “here and now” reflecting on how childhood/early life experience may be a root cause to negative thoughts, behaviour, or anxiety; reflecting back to see a way forward.  This is done together, in a down to earth and accessible way.

My background and experience is varied; originally from Ireland, I have lived and worked overseas and have been fortunate to work in a broad spectrum of diverse companies and charities, broadening my outlook, cultural awareness and personal development.

Wishing you well.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Testimonials from people I have worked with:

"Since our first meeting, Katriona has helped me develop ways to manage my stress and make sure I’m not too hard on myself. As for the relationships in my life, Katriona has sensitively helped me see why those around me may be acting and feeling the way they do, whilst also reassuring me that all my feelings are justified and acceptable. She carefully has helped me work through a range of emotions and struggles since we first met and I’ve been rewarded by seeing how much better I deal with everyday problems since I first started my sessions."

"From our first phone call consultation, Katriona has been so perceptive, kind and encouraging. I almost couldn’t believe how quickly she ‘got’ me. I felt in very safe and extremely qualified hands from the first moments, as Katriona understood what it was I was looking to gain almost immediately. Natural conversation, in a calm and comforting atmosphere, taps into moments I want to discuss regarding family, friends, my emotions, my experiences, and ultimately this leads into something Katriona helps me work through and understand. With her incredibly vast knowledge in the field, my jumbled outpouring in our first session has been broken down as I have been helped to understand how and why I have felt how I have felt. We also discuss techniques and exercises to implement when the feelings I experience bubble up, which has been such a help. I can’t imagine working with anyone else and each week I find myself feeling more at peace."

"Katriona has really helped me navigate through recent challenging and anxious situations at work, and I have found my sessions with her always leave me feeling calmer, stronger and reassured.  Her empathetic ear, kind demeanour and extensive professional experience mean she not only listens and understands, but is able to provide me with a renewed sense of confidence and guide me to feeling empowered taking my next professional steps. I couldn’t recommend talking with her highly enough. Her down to earth and friendly approach to therapy means I found building trust in our sessions came naturally and quickly, which I value tremendously, and I continue to look forward to my weekly sessions with her - five years and still going strong!"

"I was struggling with a lot of things and felt very overwhelmed. Katriona was warm, understanding and had great insight into why I was feeling the way I was. I felt so comfortable from the get go we built a strong level of trust, and that has let me open up in ways I previously haven’t wanted to. I really like the way Katriona gives me so many helpful tools and coping mechanisms taken from different therapy models depending on what the current conversation or situation calls for".
