About me

Katrina Healey - MSc BA (Hons) PGCE Dip. Coaching MBACP (Accred.) EMDR Practitioner (Accred.)

About Me
I am an accredited member of both the BACP and EMDR UK and Europe Associations, and a senior professional member of the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO).  I have over twenty years’ experience in personal development with a background in management consultancy, coaching, training, teaching and therapy.

I offer EMDR for trauma and PTSD; and person-centred, solution-focused psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and personal development coaching in a relaxed and supportive environment, either face to face in my practice room, or remotely by telephone, webcam or fully encrypted email - whichever works best for you.   As a senior professional member of ACTO, I am fully committed and trained in working online.

I work with both short term interventions and long term support depending on your requirements.  I will work alongside you in a non-judgmental, confidential, empathic way which will allow you the time and space to make sense of, and face, whatever issues you have to enable you to move forward.

How I work

I offer face to face and online therapy via Zoom, MS Teams, email and telephone.

For both psychotherapy and coaching, I work in a ‘person-centred’ way, which is counselling speak for putting you at the centre of the work.  There are no set agendas, and as you are the most important person in the relationship - your hour will be all about you, giving you the head-space to make sense of what is going on in your life.

Being person-centred means that I will not judge you, but rather will enter your world to support you to make choices and changes to your thinking, emotions and actions.  I offer empathy, not sympathy to empower you to gain clarity and growth.  I will make you think and encourage you towards change - therapy is not just chatting, it can be hard work and sometimes upsetting.

I am based near Walsall Arboretum in a light, relaxing room. I have disabled access and ample, free parking.  If you prefer to work remotely, as a member of the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO), I am trained in telephone and web-based counselling and take your data security seriously. Online therapy gives you the opportunity to access counselling support at a time and in a place which suits you best.

I also work as a Pets as Therapy (PaT) team with my dog as required.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Sessions last for 50 minutes, usually weekly or fortnightly.
EMDR sessions can be up to 90 minutes.

I offer a free, initial 15 minute telephone call where we can discuss how we might work together, what challenges you wish to work on, and answer any questions you have.

There is absolutely no obligation to return for a full session, as we may not be suited to each other, and it is important that you find a therapist/ coach who you feel you would be able to work with to gain the most out of the sessions.  Here we could discuss our ‘contract’ – our agreement to how we will work together.  This covers my legal obligations for the GDPR Data Protection Laws, Insurance Liabilities and ethical practice.
