Katie Piercy (PgDip Couns, BSc Psych, Reg. MBACP)
I am a qualified, BACP-registered counsellor/psychotherapist, with a private practice based in Nottingham and Newark. I practice person-centred and psychodynamic therapy and have experience working in many different areas, including anxiety, depression, and loss.
I offer a therapeutic space for you to explore whatever it is you feel needs attention. Maybe you want to better understand yourself within relationships or do some other type of personal work such as address feelings of anxiety. Perhaps this is a time of transition or loss for you. Therapy is an opportunity to express your feelings, reflect on your experiences, understand yourself more clearly, and discover or create supports to get what you feel you need. Therapy can help people find clarity and overcome feeling stuck amongst what stands in the way of emotional and mental well-being.
Facing distressing feelings requires trust and commitment from both client and counsellor. Whatever your struggle, I offer you a safe, confidential space where I come alongside you, without judgement, in your attempts to better understand yourself. My aim is to give you an experience of being heard and understood. I work together with clients with curiosity and compassion to develop insight into experiences.
Training, qualifications & experience
- Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (Distinction), University of Edinburgh
- BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Registered Member
I trained in both Person-centred & Psychodynamic psychotherapy. Offering counselling using elements from both these perspectives allows me to accept the client fully and also respond to the patterns of behaviour and unconscious traits we all carry with us. I have completed Level 1 Training for EFT (Emotion-Focused Psychotherapy).
I also have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Distinction) and a teaching certification.
I have also previously worked as a counsellor in Edinburgh with the PF Counselling Service, Pregnancy Counselling and Care (Scotland), Queen Margaret University, and Hope Park.
I have experience working with clients experiencing the following:
• Panic attacks
• Suicidal feelings
• Abuse (emotional, physical, and sexual)
• Low self-esteem
• Depression or low mood
• Work-related issues
• Loss and bereavement
• Impact of pregnancy, infertility, and/or pregnancy loss

Finding a therapist you can trust and relate to is important. With this in mind, I approach our first few sessions as an opportunity to decide between us whether counselling with me is right for you at this moment. If that's the case, we can proceed with weekly sessions, preferably at the same time each week.
For some clients, time-limited work may be helpful; others may feel more open-ended work suits their needs. We can discuss your needs and desired outcomes for counselling within our initial session as well as during regular review sessions throughout our work.
Fees are due at each session and are payable by cash.
