About me

Hello and Welcome. My name is Katie Hendrick and I am an HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist.

I offer a trusted and confidential private practice from the Life Academy, Edinburgh and in Trauma Psychotherapy Scotland, based in Glasgow, offering short and long term psychotherapy to individual clients. People arrange appointments who are often feeling sad, depressed and anxious but there is no single reason to arrange an appointment. It is often the first step in making the initial contact that is the hardest step to take.

My Professional Training: I have trained in Trinity College Dublin graduating in 2001 and have worked in a range of settings inclusive of psychiatry, consultancy, Student Counselling Services and lecturing. Prior to training as a psychologist, I trained as a Registered Nurse in London.

Counselling Psychology embraces a number of therapy modalities and I have trained in mindfulness; dialectical behavioural therapy; extensive trauma training in cognitive therapy and for the past number of years trained in different levels of the comprehensive resource model that is incorporated into a psychotherapeutic relationship. More recently, I have trained in Deep Brain Re-orientation with Dr Frank Corrigan. For further details, please refer to the website.

People often are confused about the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist and the NHS have provided a response in this link: https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/psychological-therapies/differences-between-psychology-psychiatry-and-psychotherapy

I offer specialist consultancy by arrangement and I am registered with the protection of vulnerable group scheme, Disclosure Scotland.

Areas of counselling I deal with

As a counselling psychologist, I have 20 years clinical experience of working with a range of clients in different settings. Some clients refer themselves and some clients present via their employers wellbeing programme. I am registered with Healthcode and approved as a practitioner with Aetna Global Benefits, AXA PPP Healthcare, Aviva and Vitality Health. More registrations are in progress.

I work with individuals who present with personal experiences that are interfering with their quality of life and that manifest across the lifespan. The issues that are presented may include anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties and abuse but it is not an exhaustive list. Each person is unique and it is in the Intake assessment that the reasons for attending therapy services are explored in detail and a psychotherapy contract is then agreed.
