K L Aspden - Creative Counselling; MBACP (Snr. Accred)
Many people come to therapy because they reach a difficult point in their lives. This could be a sudden crisis or an ongoing issue. Reaching such a place can shake our foundations. We may need someone alongside us who can support us at such a time. By facing our most challenging situations we can regain our lives and begin to function again. But more than that, we can grow, and thrive. I believe in more than just surviving.
As an experienced Person Centred counsellor (20 years) with Senior Accreditation (BACP), I offer warmth, safety and sensitivity. I also specialise in using creative approaches for those who are drawn to this way of working. For example - art, music, sand tray, drama, movement, play or creative writing may be used to work with deep issues such as loss, trauma, and other experiences which are beyond words.
Additionally, I have specialist training in the area of trauma and anxiety. Using 'common sense' methods taught by Babette Rothschild I begin by helping individuals to gain control over the physiological elements of trauma to establish stability. This enables the reduction of debilitating symptoms such as flash backs, panic attacks and trauma- related illness. I have experience in working with developmental trauma (for those who had difficult beginnings). I am currently studying a well-researched approach (AEDP) which is body-based and grounded in neuroscience. This is an effective approach to help 'undo aloneness' and support clients to experience the healing power of their emotions.
I am the author of 'Help! I've Got an Alarm Bell Going Off in my Head!' published by Jessica Kingsely Publishers. My subsequent book: Help! My Feelings are Too Big! is now out (March 2019) and is written for children who had a difficult start. Both books are adult friendly!
I have been working with clients of all ages (children, teens and adults) since 1998 in a variety of settings:
- private practice (Creative Counselling).
Creative Counselling offers individual therapy, clinical supervision, workshops, retreats and creative groupwork (including Sesame sessions - drama/movement). Staff training for those who work in education or with vulnerable adults.
I am currently offering individual Drawing and Talking sessions at a reduced rate (£30 per half hour session).

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
