About me

Darlington Therapy is a professional psychology service based in the heart of Darlington town centre. I am a genuine and compassionate psychological therapist offering discreet counselling and therapy to individuals, couples and families.

My aim is to provide a highly specialised therapy service that is both affordable and flexible and provides early improvement in functioning and wellbeing, while ensuring long- term results. The therapeutic relationship forms the foundation for the work and we will collaboratively identify and work towards your goals for therapy. The way I work is often suited to those who've had counselling or therapy before, but who feel that they would like to work at a deeper level and understand their motivations, feelings and behaviour. This often means looking at early experiences in order to understand how these shape us and may be impacting on our live's today. Together we'll look at developing new and more helpful patterns of relating to yourself and others to improve your relationships and wellbeing.

I'm registered with the Health and care professions council (HCPC), the UK's only regulatory body for healthcare practitioners and I'm also a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a member of the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT).

I have over 20 years' experience working therapeutically with individuals' both in the National Health Service and private services and specialise in the treatment of adult complex mental health, which includes chronic or treatment- resistant depression and anxiety, personality issues, trauma and loss. I work primarily with adults and couples but also offer services for children and young people and families, students and colleagues.

In my experience there are many factors which can impact our mental health and everyone will experience emotional distress at some time in their life. At times, we can all benefit from a private and safe space and some genuine help and support to help us reconnect with our internal strengths and develop new strategies to navigate difficult times. I encourage you to visit my website to see how I can help. I'm also happy to have an informal telephone conversation prior to meeting if that is right for you.

Health and Care Professions Council

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Specialist Areas of Work

I work at a deep relational level exploring patterns of relating to the self and others, which is often also reflected in the therapeutic relationship. This way of working can provide a really useful insight into why we think, feel and act a particular way in certain situations and why we might keep making the same mistakes or experiencing the same difficulties. The Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) model adopts this approach in an 8, 16 or 24 session programme of treatment which is really useful for those individual's who may embark on therapy, in part, as a process of self- discovery and who wish to have a 'complete' course of treatment. Contact me or visit my website for further details.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.
