About me

I am an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, I work face to face and offer confidential sessions to adults, young people and children.  I am trained to provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or a Child Centred Counselling approach depending on which is most suitable.

The heart of my approach is to form positive relationships with my clients, based on trust and understanding. I practise from comfortable rooms with a welcoming and non-judgemental manner. I work collaboratively with clients and I adapt my approach depending on individual needs, making sure therapy suits each individual.

I can help individuals explore and understand the challenges which they face and offer a space for emotional expression. I work with clients to make connections between early life experiences and their current situation which can often be the first step towards change. I can help to establish any factors which are maintaining a situation and work together with clients towards achieving their goals.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I work according to their ethical framework.  I undertake regular supervision sessions, I am fully insured and hold a current PVG certificate.

It can be a difficult step to begin counselling or therapy but I will endeavour to make your experience as supportive and compassionate as possible, working alongside you to help you achieve your goals.

SESSIONS

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an established, evidence based talking therapy which is based on the connections between our thoughts, behaviours, emotions and physiology.  It enables individuals to explore, understand and make changes to their thoughts or behaviours which can have a positive impact on how they feel.   CBT can be effective in treating anxiety, worry, depression, low self-esteem, OCD, PTSD and emotional and behavioural challenges.

Some individuals, particularly children can find it hard to express themselves verbally.  When this is the case it can be more effective to use play or art activities to allow clients to explore their challenges.  This enables them to express their emotions, understand their challenges, to be in control and to help resolve distress at their pace.

It can be helpful to communicate with families within confidentiality boundaries.  Sometimes working solely with parents and carers can be the most appropriate way forward. This would be discussed after the initial assessment.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
