I am a trained psychotherapist in Transactional Analysis and Integrative Psychotherapy and an IMAGO relationship counsellor in training. I work with individuals and couples.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Association of Transactional Analysis (UKATA), IMAGO UK and abide by their Codes of Ethics.
I work on a contractual basis and the therapeutic work is outcome focussed. The client is an equal partner with the therapist. The work to be done is freely and transparently discussed and entered into by the client with the therapist, is reviewed on a regular basis and can be changed at any time.
Therapy begins with awareness and so we begin with an exploration of how things are for the client and their patterns of thinking, behaving and feeling, also the patterns within their relationships, that emerge. Once we recognise the patterns we need to find out more about their origins and purpose. We can then explore whether the client wants to change. My role is to listen & provide support but also to challenge self-limiting beliefs and values. The goal of the therapy is to aid the client in making sense of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour and to integrate their past experience with their present.
Couples work is less therapeutic and more skills based. Most of us aren't taught how to communicate effectively when conflict inevitably occurs between two people. IMAGO counselling teaches couples skills on how to communicate safely paving the way towards a deeper connection between them and reviving the joy they once felt for one another. for more information about IMAGO relationship counselling visit the IMAGO UK website. For information about weekend workshops that can kickstart your relationship recovery for couples there is Getting the Love You Want and for individuals who want to learn how to keep the love they find there is a workshop called Keeping the Love You Find on The Affinity Centre (Cheadle) website.
I believe everyone is capable of change, growth and living peacefully with others.
