Katarina Gildebrand UKCP MBACP (snr Accred.) Dip. Supervision
I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, with a North West London based practice. I work with individuals and couples seeking counselling for a variety of reasons including relationship issues, anxiety and depression, bereavement, life-transitions, career issues, trauma & abuse.
How can counselling help
Counselling provides you with the space to explore experiences and issues and identify ways of moving forward with someone who is trained to listen and to respond in a particular way. Being able to explore openly and safely your inner world can help in gaining a greater understanding and self awareness, and may be the first steps towards making positive change or experiencing your world in a better way.
Finding the right counsellor
To make the process of finding the right counsellor for you a little easier, I offer a reduced fee for the initial consultation. This provides an opportunity for us to explore what kind of counselling help and support you are looking for. We explore together what it is that is causing you distress or concern, as well as giving you an opportunity to meet me and ask any questions you may have.
How I work
I offer short term counselling, usually between 6 and 12 sessions. Here the focus is on the present and the future, identifying your needs and exploring what gets in the way and how to 'get there'. Psychotherapy involves longer term work, where the influence on the present of past experiences and relationships are explored in greater depth, including how patterns of behaviour from the past may manifest in current relationships.
I arrived in the UK from Sweden 35 years ago. I have been interested in and worked in the field of emotional health since then, practicing as a counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice since 1990. As a part of my interest in a more holistic approach to health, I also practice Nutritional Therapy (NT). NT can which be used in conjunction with counselling. NT aims to identify and rectify nutritional imbalances which may contribute to a lack of emotional well-being including stress, depression and anxiety, seasonal affective disorder, low self-esteem and addictive urges.
The counselling venue
I have a separate consulting room with its own entrance. It is quiet and undisturbed, and comfortably furnished.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and am a Certified Transactional Analyst (clinical). I also hold a diploma in Clinical Supervision. I am a Senior Accredited counsellor with BACP (British Association of Counselling) and registered with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy).
