About me

My passion for wanting to support mums was borne out of my own difficult journey into motherhood. A challenging pregnancy and a traumatic birth followed by severe postnatal depression and PTSD fuelled my drive to work with mums to make their journeys more manageable and enjoyable.

Having made a successful recovery from this difficult start to motherhood, I went on to train as a counsellor at the University of Edinburgh (MSc) and Chrysalis (Postgraduate Diploma). I have completed numerous trainings on trauma - specifically birth trauma and continue to participate in CPDs to inform my practice as a perinatal mental health therapist.

Having worked with mothers for the last few years and being a mum to two small children as well, I appreciate the need for flexibility when it comes to ME time. I therefore offer sessions online at various times during the day as well as evenings.

Where specifically requested, I can also offer sessions at someone’s home in the vicinity of Edinburgh (fees may vary). I truly believe that at our core we are good enough - we just need to find the way back to ourselves so we can enjoy the time on this planet.

I work client-led which means that there is no minimum requirement for a number of sessions nor is there a limit to the length of time we can work together. I am here for my clients for as long as they need my support.

I believe that at the heart of change through counselling lies the therapeutic alliance between the client and the counsellor. Get in touch to find out more.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

You have always been enough. That’s my core belief in people and forms the basis of my work. All too often, we find ourselves in the new role of being a mother and what we thought was going to be a joyful, easy ride might have turned out differently to what we had expected. This is probably why you are here. And I am here for you. And for all of you.

I’m trained in the psychodynamic and person-centred approach as well as the integrative approach, which means that I have a vast tool kit to choose from to support my clients, enabling me to suit their very individual needs for therapy and support.

The birth of a child can often trigger memories from our own childhood and how we may have experienced it. I am here for my clients to explore all feelings and all feelings are acceptable in the space I offer. The good and the more difficult ones. I am here for my clients - and for everything they bring.

I am also here for clients who have experienced pregnancy loss or infertility. The journey of parenthood and more specifically motherhood starts long before a baby is born and this journey, however that may look like, can be a difficult one. Support is here so please get in touch if this speaks to you

Further information

Asking for help when you are struggling with this new role as a mother is the first step of a road that can start to feel more manageable to walk on. But it is also the hardest step.

Our society has made us believe that we need to be perfect – especially as mothers. It should come naturally, we should be great at this new job, we should feel happy, we should look amazing right after birth and simply wing this monumental task of looking after a human being we made. And we should do and be all this without any help. We should and can have it all.

The truth is that we have forgotten how to live in a village. The village that supports us throughout pregnancy and especially after we have given birth to look after us and our new baby. The village that would make us healthy food, and look after our baby so we can rest and recover from pregnancy and the incredible event of having given birth. The village would pass on wisdom from other mothers about how to care for themselves and their babies. How to adjust to this new role of being a mother. The village that would catch us when we fall.

I too thought I could do it all on my own when I became a mother. I believed I needed to be perfect, the perfect mother, the perfect wife, the perfect everything. And I was crushed by the incredible task of having to do it all on my own.

Through my own journey of recovering from PTSD and PND after I had my first baby, I realised just how much more support new mothers need on this journey into motherhood. I feel truly passionate about supporting pregnant women and new mothers through my counselling and support services so that their experience of motherhood can be a more enjoyable one.

I am here for all of my clients and for all they bring. I will be in their village.
