The Rock Clinic East
270 Eastern Road
I'm an experienced (20+ years) counsellor, having worked with a very broad range of difficulties for which people have sought help. In the NHS between 2003 and 2012 I developed a specialist interest in the psychological impact of living with various physical conditions and I worked as a Counselling Psychologist in multi-disciplinary teams in Primary and Secondary Care.
My core model is within the Humanistic umbrella of therapies, I believe that a client-led and highly empathic relationship is the most facilitative relationship for personal growth. How that develops with each individual is unique and essentially unpredictable. I am however willing to nudge the process along by integrating psychodynamic insights, cognitive and behavioural elements into a therapy.
I have developed more recently an interest in Third Wave CBT Therapies which emphasise the incorporation of Mindfulness into the personal work.
I provide clinical supervision to counselling psychology trainees and qualified psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors. I am an external supervisor for London Metropolitan University and Metanoia.
I generally prefer to arrange a first meeting by email. The initial meeting is so that you can tell me what you have sought help with and you can find out whether I am someone you think you could talk to about the matters that have brought you to counselling. At that initial meeting you will be able to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process or the therapeutic approach that I use.
I work face to face on a weekly basis, but when that isn't possible I offer sessions online. I can work short term (6-10 sessions), but I prefer to offer counselling in an open-ended arrangement as it is very difficult to predict in advance how many sessions anyone will need for counselling to be effective, as there are so many factors involved.
I know that it can be very daunting to make your first contact with a counsellor however, your initial email and any other contact with me remains completely private and confidential and if I can't offer therapy, for whatever reason, I will do all I can to ensure that you are referred to someone who can be of help.
